Hi girls. I am not certain what we are supposed to write about here, so I will give this a try.

So, my old washer/dryer laundry unit died some time back and I hated the thought of spending more than $1,000 to replace it and have been watching for an alternative.

I found an old wringer washer, like my grandmother (and most of the women in my family) had for only $100! It was in good condition so we bought it.

I have used it only few times so far, and this week I started the wash with jeans. When I put the second pair through the wringer I wasn't fast enough at smoothing them first and the wringer unit popped up, as it is supposed to do, separating the rollers about an inch apart at one end. This had happened a couple of time previously and after a few minutes it would drop back into place. This time it didn't. I have been trying to get it down since Tuesday, no luck. I don't have a clue if there is a release for it, or some other way to get it down.

Have any of you any experience with this? My jeans are going to be really clean because I keep emptying and refilling the washer and re-rinsing. Tomorrow, wringer or no wringer, they are going out onto the clothesline.

Except for this incident I love using this washer.

The few old wringer washers that I have seen have been a little more expensive (to me anyway) so it sounds like you got a really good deal! Unfortunately I have no experience with using one so can't offer any advice on that.

Thanks Rachel,
I did get a really good deal. No doubt about it. I finally found out, by sheer dumb luck, how to reset the rollers. It was so simple, no wonder I couldn't figure it out. After trying everything I could think of, hitting it, banging on the rollers, trying to push or pry them from their position, for some reason I simply lifted the top of the wringer unit and it lifted up and went back down right into place. No stress what-so-ever.l
One of those "duh" moments when we give ourselves a little hit up side the head. lol

Hay ya'll. I haven't been on here for some time ....summer work on the ranch. I would love to have a wringer washer. No electricity to spend money on. Does it clean the dirty clothes really well. I don't want to go to the creek and use a rock to beat out the dirt but would love to have a washer like that. I already hang out clothes to dry and love that I am saving money that way.

Hugs and prayers, Daizy

You are something! I was just thanking God this rainy morning for a washer and drier that work. Here's my "duh" moment. I bought a new vacuum cleaner a year ago with a retractable cord. I thought you had to pull it out a bit and then it would automatically rewind as my mom's does. No deal. So for a year I've just been piling up the cord on top of the handle. Then when I decided to take the thing apart and give it a thorough cleaning, I accidentally hit a button that made the cord rewind beautifully. Isn't it funny how the simplest things can befuddle us?

Blessings,

That is too funny Carol! :) I am glad for you that you hit the button in the end.

Daizy, It does a good job cleaning the clothes, but my DH moans a bit because it doesn't have a lint screen and he must use a lint roller on his dark clothes now.

Update on my "new" old machine: While emptying the water from the last rinse cycle, either the water pump or the motor burned up. At least I was able to get caught up on the wash, and it waited for the very last rinse before smoking.
Now DH will be taking it apart and looking for replacement parts.

It never seems to end.
