I agree - I believe it is a whisk. Love your goodies, Connie.

I asked the girl at the shop about that tool and she also thought it was a whisk. I had never seen one like it before and thought it was pretty cool. I was surprised that someone hadn't snatched it up already!

so far only picture I could fine. general idea, except the fabric was weaved over and under the springs. Stuff the fabric loosely and it would be easy to do.

I am gonna keep looking for a picture!!!

Connie, the "whisk" is an egg white beater. Just break the eggs and separate them. then beat the whites until you have nice fluffy peaks.
I remember these from the 1950s. We were making velvet pin cushions out of the egg beaters that looked sort of like chicken wire. We put lace around the edges. Then they became impossible to find, and this " new fangled one" was all the stores offered..Not very suitable to make pin cushions, but good at whipping egg whites. This was when electric mixers were just becoming popular.

That spoon is beautiful Connie! How did they get it to stay in the spoon?

I have a whisk like that Connie. I don't use it anymore. I have a few old utensils I have saved. Pin cushion is a cute idea.

I am glad to learn what the utensil was for but I am having a hard time imagining how to properly use it. Having only used the standard whisk that one finds today , the flatness of this old timer seems awkward . My guess is that you use a circular motion like a regular whisk? Regardless, I love the pink handle and the story that goes with it. Nd doubt the original owners knew all about how to use it to make wonderful things like lemon meringue pie and whipped cream. These old pieces are truly treasures of the past and that makes them very special to own. I am going to keep an eye out and see if I can find one somewhere.

Debbie Klann, Lily June insisted on using our Vintage mixer. it works great!

Easier than the hand whisk she usually uses!

Look what I found in the milk pitcher that holds my hubby's grandmother's kitchen utensils!
These were the egg beaters we made into beautiful pin cushions.
We did not own an electric mixer when I began to learn to cook.
Just think of all the ladies who fed their families all sorts of cakes, pies and other desserts...before electric hand mixers became available!

Ohh, Marilyn, now I can see how this beater works and it makes more sense to me. What a wonderful treasure to have from hubby’s grandmother! We are talking about the late 1800s in time right?

Connie,, Lily June is so cute using your new beater for the cake! It looks like your new kitchen beater is working great with little hands too!

Sherry, I mailed so early because our postal system is so slow and some of them seem to not be able to read, (like our delivery lady) These days.
