OMG, We missed yesterday's celebration:

National Cream-filled Donut day! Yummy!

Today Sept 15 is:

Make a hat day!
Felt hat day (according to the website it is the day men put their felt hats away)

Well, I think I'll celebrate National cream-filled donut day! What the heck ... better late then never!

Carole is felt hat day like "don't wear white after Labor Day"?

When I was high school in late spring us girls would call each other to see if it was time to wear sleeveless blouses; then in Sept we would call to see if it was time to stop wearing them. In a way I miss those days when we followed the dictates of fashion, but on the other hand I sure do like wearing what I want when I want to.

Sara, I'm not sure. As a kid I remember my mother putting all of her white clothing and accessories away. You also had matching accessories! Doris Day comes to mind! lol

My husband had an aunt, who thought of herself as a fancy lady. She had very nice clothes. Her daughter told me that when she and her brother cleared out her things, they found that every nice outfit had shoes jewelry and a small purse. Inside each purse was a tube of lipstick and a small bottle of perfume.
She never worked outside her home, so I guess she had time.
I remember the no whites after labor day rule.

I remember that white shoes and white hats put away after labor day too.
Sometimes the way they make shoes now days like Nike's it is hard to find black ones. In this County I live in there are few people who follow that thought any more. It has changed to very casual country here.
It was nice dressing up for things like shopping, sometimes it is too casual.

There was a lady who used to go to my church and she had everything that matched in colors, just like your husband's aunt Marilyn. It was kind of neat to see what she would wear on Sundays
Well have a good Thursday.

I attended a luncheon held in memory of women who impacted the small town of Van Alstyne, TX. One of the speakers spoke of a woman who in the summer's heat walked to church every Sunday to keep from wrinkling her white linen suit in the car. I would have liked to had a glass of iced tea with her. Don't you know she was a character.

We never wore white shoes, hat or clothing after Labor Day.

Marilyn, your story reminds me of my aunt. She lived in Miami and we went down for a visit one time. She was showing me her huge collection of shoes and matching purses. I was young at the time, probably around 12 and she told me I could pick out a set to keep. I did but don't know whatever happen to them.

I remember the movie stars were a huge influence for those who were young adults when I was a child. Perhaps the ones who could afford matching items felt more like a movie star.

Today September 17 is

National Apple Dumpling Day!

Anything with apple in there reminds me of Winnie!

Winnie is probably enjoying this day and an Apple dumpling sounds good.
I bet they did feel more like a movie star.

I'm celebrating and giving the Lord praise for a surprised thunderstorm this morning. It's already blown over but the rain was good while it lasted. We're back into a drought so every drop counts.

On this day in 1870, Old Faithful was named. Water so hot some used it to do their laundry. I wonder if those early settlers had any idea what was below the surface they were walking around on.

In 1982 we were on my son's senior class trip to Hawaii, the big island. We went on a little tour bus all around the island, stopping at Kilauea volcano. There was a small spot out there that was darker than the rest of the crater. I asked why, and was told they had experienced a small eruption the night before. Next question...were people in the restaurant at the time? And the young lady said yes, there were. One short year later it really did a big Show Off eruption and continues even now. I just would not feel safe walking around on any crater. Besides I do not enjoy the sulfur smell.

Marilyn, when we were stationed in Hawaii we lived in an old crater. They had built army housing in there. It was beautiful. None of the volcanos erupted while we were there but I remember hurricane Ewa very well. Shortly after there were t shirts being sold everywhere we went that said "I survived hurricane Ewa"

Thanks for the Fire Department idea. I hadn't thought of that. Will give it a try.

Fall is my favorite time of the year! I love it! It's so peaceful and quite. Life seems to slow down for me. Especially, since all my kids are out on their own now.

Now that I have all of my paperwork turned in at my new job, Maybe I can relax. I could not find my SS card. I took in my Birth Certificate and DL. Not good enough. It is 60 miles to Cleburne! where the nearest SS office is. I cannot make myself drive over there after my morning. I might go to sleep. Finally it was decided that I could get a copy from school. So after work I drove ten miles and now it is taken care of. Thank goodness.

Tomorrow is the equinox. I was excited when I found that this will happen at 9:21 am tomorrow near where I live. So we will try to stand an egg on its end in class tomorrow.
