I went and got a pumpkin spice cappuccino while out running errands on Wednesday. Very good but very sweet.

Today is Veterans Day! Let's remember all the men and women in our arm forces - today and in the past.

I have little flags I put out on my front porch for days like today. One of my big pumpkins has a couple of bad spots so I stuck flags in it. Looks really good. Tomorrow I'll take the flags out and put the pumpkin in backyard - hopefully a couple of the seeds will grow next year.

Thoughts from my daughter. She said it so well.
"This is my dad.
I know a lot of people feel like the veterans that didn't fight and die in a war didn't really sacrifice much, but my dad was on a sub for six months at a time, during a period of his life when he had just been married, when his kids were being born, learning to talk, walk, and I know that it was tough on all of us when he came home, almost a stranger to his own children. The men and women in the military aren't giving us the leftovers of their lives; they are sacrificing the best parts. Even when there isn't war, they are giving up these moments, and that is why I want to say thank you."

There was one WWII veteran and his wife on our ship. They honored all veterans throughout the cruise.

Darlene, this is a wonderful photo of your father from WWII. We have no idea the hardships they faced during their deployments for so many years as most returning soldiers never spoke of what happened. Thanks for sharing!

And most of them chose not to talk a lot about their experiences. They came home and helped raise their children, often in homes with less than 1000square feet. Their children had to share...something kids now days often don't understand. Darlene, your dad was a handsome young man.
Denise tell your daughter she said it amazingly well!

Joining with Sara in this same greeting!! It is a beautiul thing to see a whole new year unfold right before your eyes. How I love to open a new calendar year and ponder on possibilities and changes that can and might happen! It feels exciting to me, sort of like starting a new school year in late August or September.

Happy 2018 to all!
I am with you on the calendar. It always makes me think of the line in Anne of Green Gables where she is talking to her teacher and she says "Tomorrow is always new with no mistakes in it".

Brenda I used Nicole's "Texdane" grandmother's Greek spaghetti sauce recipe and added the eggplant. Turned out quite good. The recipe calls for cherry wine but I couldn't find it here so I used sweet red dessert wine and added cherry brandy. The sauce is not sweet but has a very good flavor.

Thanks for sharing these pictures! Denise's daughter stated it exactly right!! I don't think we can thank them enough for the sacrifices made by our Military and their families! This is My dad. Louis Lemenze. He was away for a year aboard ship in 1958. He was missed.

Think I just might have to give that spaghetti sauce a try. Using applesauce cake for fruitcake would be good. Going to give that a try also.

I was told once by a stranger that they admired military families, because we had a different outlook on life.

Nice looking Dads Connie and Darlene.
