This day has some great things to celebrate. Applesauce cake sounds yummy and I love a good excuse to hug my kitty more than usual. We shall see what he thinks about that! LOL!!

We have a farm market here that makes apple cider doughnuts. Everyone here raves about them but we were a bit disappointed as you can't taste the apple cider at all.
Love applesauce cake!!

This past week we enjoyed fresh picked Silver Queen Corn from my daughter's garden. Boy, was it tender and sweet!! It tastes good just raw on the cob too. We like it lightly cooked with butter and S&P . What a treat we had for three meals last week. Better than candy!!

I love corn sliced from the cob, it is good raw or cooked.I have never been a fan of beets. Everyone I have ever tried tasted like dirt. Then I remembered a girl who worked at the daycare. She ate raw beets like an Apple. So I have been grating them for salads...They are yummy. No more cooking them for me, but I can help my blood pressure by having beets now.

Bought a bunch of fresh beets at the Farmers Market yesterday. Steamed them and will put them in the freezer to add to my smoothies. To eat them raw, do you just scrub them really good, then grate them? How do you keep your hands from turning red?? I love beets, but not the mess I create with them :(!

I just peel and grate them on a big tooth grater and the color washes off...So far. The reason I use that grater...Who knows where the other one is. I also tried slicing them as thin as I could with a knife and using them to dip spinach dip along with celery. I bought a thing from pampered chef that is to hold a roast down as you slice it. It reminds me of a hair pick that we used when we teased our hair. Anyway it works great to poke it into the beet so I don't end up grating my hand.
