It has been thundering here for over an hour now, and 25 miles away it poured for a bit. I hope it is coing this way and we get some rain. We need it. I know it will delay the pouring of my new sidewalks, but rain is good.

It was nice today though.

No that was way over by the North eastern corner of California up by Nevada, on the way to Reno.
Thank goodness.

Very warm here today. I wish we'd get some rain, but going to be a few more over 100 degrees days for a while. YUCK!

Connie I hope you get your rain in gentle portions.

Has anyone heard from Marlee? She lives in Louisiana, and they just had a Flash flood somewhere there. I just wanted to know she was safe.

A slow misty rain here today - very welcome after 12+ days of 100+ degree days. And chances of rain are 60% for next 4 days. We need the rain, so I'm definitely not complaining.

Hoping that Marlee is ok, we are getting some rain but not near like our neighbors in LA.
Darlene how about you and all those fires?
Thinking of all our farmgirl sisters, this weather is a little scary. Take care everyone.

My DIL volunteers with the Red Cross and she was just asked to go down to LA to help get people into housing and such. That means I will have the twins during the day for the next 1-2 weeks. So much rain down there and 20,000 rescued so far.

Yes, and I hope it's not the hassle it was last year. I know I'm dreaming, but I hope their being a year older they might be more interested in learning. OK, guess I am dreaming.

Scavenger hunts are great. They have to read the list and find all of the trash...treasures...I do this when I sub, they call it fun, and I call it community service. When the kids were little they loved treasure hunts with a pirate's map. They kept me busy find ing new things to search for. Also, AR Reading... you make four questions about a little book they can read. They read the book, then they answer the questions. We always played school in the summer. They would make things for me to do also. Then as my teachers they graded my work. They loved for me to miss one now and then.

Great ideas, Marilyn. Wonder what I can hide for the treasure/scavenger hunt. I can make slightly different locations on the same map for different items, so when one twin finds the item the other twin doesn't go to the same spot. LOL!

We have finally had some much needed rain. Nothing like LA. I do hope everyone is safe down there.

Cloudy day today! Not complaining .... rain is a good thing. It has been such a dry summer.

Marilyn, you come up with such great ideas for kids!

You could also number the treasure, #1 on one set and #2 on one set. Give each twin a # and that way if they find the wrong treasure...leave it and move on. Sometimes I hid the parts of snack time...a piece of fruit, crackers, chips, a small candy, juice pouch, etc. You could let them find the ingredients of a recipe an(d then cook. They must read, measure, and learn to be safe in the kitchen. Teach them to sew. Kids love little bags to put their little toys in. Simple rectangle shapes. Now you must know that this kind of thinking got me fired by that woman who thinks four year olds should sit quietly using a pencil and paper. Ha!

Carole, thanks, It comes from teaching bitty ones. You have to be creative or you will have chaos. I prefer loosely organized chaos.
I'll never forget our first day of daycare. Three adults watching 14 little ones run and play, squeeling in a big gym. I looked at my two young ladies and said, "I will be crazy if we do this every day. We need to have a schedule, do our Bible story, art, play, nap, etc." So we verbally agreed on the first plan. It was tweaked frequently, because we went from our 14 kids to 150 kids in about 16 months.

Love the slow steady rain we had yesterday - more misty than heavy, but at least that way it soaks in and doesn't all run off into the ditches. My pond is about 3 feet low, so could use a heavy rain after this light ones soak in. Supposed to rain almost every day this week.
