Finally getting some rain and cool temperatures yesterday and today. So nice to be able to enjoy some cool fresh air and and not having that muggy and smothering feeling. Also nice to give the a.c. a break.

Farmgirls, we are on hurricane watch with the pending storm Hurricane Florence. Right now it looks like it will miss Florida, if it takes a more southerly course , it will impact Jacksonville area and we will get a lot of rain which we don't need. We are supposed to be visiting our daughter in Asheville, NC this week and if the hurricane hits there bulls eye, we would be facing lots of heavy rain in the mountains as it moves inland. Right now, we are doing the usual September thing in Florida; hurricane watch to see where it is going to land so we can batten down the hatches if needed. This annual watch gets OLD!! LOL!!

Connie and Denise, I envy your respite with rains and cooler temps. Here it climbs to 90+ humid degrees and then as the afternoon progresses, the downpours strike. They say today will bring big thunderstorms with lightening and heavy downpours. Again. Same story different day.

They have started evacuating parts of South Carolina. My cousin andhis family are there. His wife is flying to NY to see family but he is going to stay and head to a shelter if need be.

We canceled our trip to Asheville today. All of the mandatory evacuations from SC and NC coasts are already filling up the interstates that we usually travel and there are reported gas shortages as well. It is hard to know what the actual impact the storm will have in Asheville, but the biggest issue was the travel problems. The mountains will most likely put a shield up on the city and help reduce their problems. We will schedule for sometime soon when things look clear on our calendars. I was really hoping the hurricane would move more out to sea! It is going to be a forceful storm and I hope and pray everyone gets out and stays safe. I worry about those who do not have the ability to travel or who have lots of animals and cannot leave them. Hurricanes of this strength are just so scary because they are devastating to those in the direct path.

I found out my cousins wife drove to NY so now they are heading home but they will have to go quite a ways as the border on I95 is closed between North and South Carolina. Their house fared fine as did my cousin who stayed. But the roads are collapsing and there have been people hurt in those.

For us today was a bit rainy and overcast so pretty much what we have been having. Though yesterday was beautiful and sunny and I made sure I went out to soak some of it up! Rain from Florence in our forecast.

The damages in NC and SC look a lot like those in Houston after last year's hurricane. And most people don't have flood insurance.

Well that isn’t good, and how scary wondering if the road won’t disappear under your car.
All in my prayers.
Take care out there?

There was a car that went down in the hole made by the road where it sank and apparently it was dark and a truck drove right over top of the car as neither of them realized the road was gone. Didn't see the truck in the picture but the lady from the car was taken to the hospital. I have heard nothing further. Storms can be so devastating.

The heartache from the news reporting is just devastating!! So many people lost, injured, stranded and watching their homes just sink under all the water. I hope the waters stop rising and start receding soon!!

It is supposed to be cooler here, too, this weekend. They say possible rain tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. I sure hope sos. It is a lot cooler tonight - and I like that. We need all the rain we can gete.

Right now, all of North Texas has a bad influs or Army worms. They can clean out a lawn or a pasture in 3 days or less. My pest guy srayed the lawn yesterday. So far we haven't seen them in my pasture, butu the neighbors around here have them in their pastures, and that means they can eat the future hay fields down very quickly. The worms are so bad in this area and all over than farmers are finding it hard to find the necessary supplies to treat their fields.

Oh gosh, Linda, that infestation of Army worms sounds terrible!! The wet year we have had are causing the swamp moth larvae to eat up our lawn even with spraying!! This Summer has been so long , hot and wet that it is amazing any of us are still here!! LOL!~!! We have had a week straight of temps in the mid 90s with heat indexes up to 103 EVERY SINGLE DAY!! Enough already!!

I heard this morning that a cooler front was heading down over the Great Lakes region so I hope everyone in it's path will get a wonderful change in weather!

Stay safe, Winnie and all in the storm's path. This year has been horrendous with the hurricanes on the east coast and gulf coast.

Hopefully any rains we got this past week while we were gone will drown all the remaining worms. My neighbor's field that he bales has spots in it that have been eaten down to the ground by the worms.

Having rain today. A nice gentle rain. We always have rains in November. Part of the way our fall goes. But we do get a few sunny days in here and there.
