Thanks to everyone for your feedback about the book club. I've been mulling things over, and here are some conclusions I came to:

1. Everyone enjoys reading
2. Mostly everyone is so busy they can't see straight!
3. The few moments we get to read are precious.
4. We want to spend those precious moments reading something we really enjoy and/or learn from.
5. We don't want the pressure of having to read on a schedule.
6. Formalized book discussions on-line can be a little dull and awkward (nobody said this, but I think it's true!)

The point is sharing about books is to keep us learning about new books and new authors, which keeps us reading, which keeps us happy and brain-healthy. So I have a couple of ideas. First is this simple "What Are You Reading" topic. Let's share about the books we read and enjoy so we can all discover them.

How's this sound to everyone?

Happy Day!

Sounds like a wonderful idea. How would you like us to proceed? Did you want us to start a new thread with the name of the book and what we thought of it? Or do you want one thread for all the books?

I think it's good to start with one thread, actually this one would be fine. That way it's easy to find book ideas. I'm going to try to post here tonight about what I'm reading (when I have a little peace and quiet, ha ha!)

I'm reading a book my mom gave me called "You And I And Yesterday" by Marjorie Holmes. It's a series of short essays about different aspects of her life growing up in a small town. From what I've read so far, I'd say the time frame us the 1920's to the 1930's. It's fascinating, warm, and very relaxing to read. Essays cover a myriad of topics, from kites to grandpa's garden to laundry day to mom's apron. It's a real insight into life before everything became automated, before suburbs, before TV, radio and washing machines. I love this book!

I'm presently reading way to many books at the same time. I have decided that I will not start or buy another book until I finish one. Hum ... I think I already broke that rule! Darn.

The 7 habits of highly effective people (25th year anniversary edition) - Stephen Covey - I have read this book before and enjoyed it very much. I think it has a wealth of information on how to life a fulfilled life. I would recommend it to anyone. I have approx. 50 pages to read - hoping to finish this one tonight. It's on my To Do list.

I've always wondered about that book, Carole. I may just put it on my reading list now that you've said it's worthwhile. My reading list may be the only list that's longer that my UFO list! Hee Hee!

I just finished reading "Howard's End" by E. M. Forster. It's not a long book, but it took me a long time. It was interesting, a good story, but very wordy and full of his analysis of the social changes taking place in England in the early 20th century. Since my reading time is usually when I'm really tired, I would fall asleep after only a few pages! But I'm glad I read it, I'm sure it was good for my brain, hee hee! I've never seen the movie, but probably will try to see it now. What are you reading g?

I am reading "Soil Sisters"! It is fabulous! Exactly what I needed. I admit, I am a tad jealous of those WI gals... So much help from so many local ladies.

Alicia, good to see you on the forum.

Presently reading First Things First by Stephen Covey and al. Learning to prioritize my week so that I don't end up in quadrant 1 and worse, quadrant 4 (which is wasting your time/mindless stuff). Of course avoiding quadrant 4 is about taking care of yourself (sharpening the saw) so that you don't burn out and just vegge.

I set aside at least an hour to read every day. It is doing me some good.

I just finished reading 2 quick reads. "The Mermaid's Sister" is a first book by Carrie Anne Noble. It's a YA book about mystical characters, mermaids, dragons, changlings, etc. Interestingly, it's set in the mountains in Pennsylvania, not some mythical far away land. I enjoyed it, although sometimes it was little predictable and simplistic, but then again it is a YA category book so you expect that. But it had some creative and unexpected things, too, and the writing was good

I so read "Sisters on the Fly" by Irene Rawlings. Since I'm planning to camp and travel (someday) it was interesting. It was mostly about the restored campers and social aspect, but it was still interesting. Great pictures!

Finally finished reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (for the second time). It's such a good book and serves as a reminder for me to keep on track.

Still continuing to read First Thing First by Stephen Covey. That is my morning book. In the evening I am reading "The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself" by Michael A. Singer. Great read, if you're into that stuff.

Finished reading "Adventures of the Soul: Journeys Through the Physical and Spiritual Dimensions" By James Van Praagh. A light, interesting and fascinating read.

If you're looking for a humourous read "The Project Rosie: A Novel" by Graeme Simsion. OMG, I finished it in one night! I laughed so hard, I had tears!

I know, those Elm Creek books are what fueled my desire to learn quilting! I finished On Little Wings last night. I loved it. Anyone want to read it, I'll be happy to send it to you! Here's a write up. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13409474-on-little-wings

I'm super excited to be starting "The Mercy" by Beverly Lewis tonight, courtesy of Julie:)

I like Jennifer Chiaverini's Elm Creek books. I've read most of them. Mostly in the correct order.

Another series I like is by Maggie Sefton - they are all centered around a yarn shop in Colorado. They make me want to knit, and each includes a pattern or two. LOL! They are murder mysteries.

I am just starting (because it was in my vacation mail) The Quilter's Daughter, by Wanda E. Brunstetter. I read another written by her - The Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club. It was super. It was recommended to me by Brenda Wheeler.

Just finished reading Cross Creek by Marjorie Kinnen Rawlings and it was very interesting. Cross Creek was the home of Marjorie during the 1930s and she wrote several books during this time. Her famous, The Yearling, is also quite good and one more people may know. Cross Creek is also located in Alachua County, Florida which is the county where I live. It was fascinating to hear her speak about life here in the 1930s and refer to so many familiar places to me. She was originally from New York, but she loved her years living and writing down here while sort of homesteading on an orange grove at the southeast end of the county. Her home is now a museum which I visited last Fall. I am so glad I read the book after the visit so that I had a great picture in my mind where everything was located. It made it all seem so real.
