Sara, I feel the same way about early mornings. The most peaceful time of day. I also like the early evenings, especially in the early summer....the air has a special feel to it.

Sara, I wonder if she posted them on some other topic. Or on the main forum?? I went back to Sept 18, 2016 of what's going on in your kitchen...no pics. Then I hopped over to celebrations and nothing there either. In Sept of 2016 she talks about wanting to see your cottage. It is thundering, lightening and raining, and I must get dressed to go to town.

In my kitchen? Got some great fresh beets with greens to cook up for tonight. We really love them this time of year when they seem so sweet.

Marilyn it was in early July of 2017 - just a little over a week before I lost my son. Linda posted it on SPG but I don't remember if it was a separate thread or on another subject. Early part of that month was filled with happiness and than such profound grief and loneness. It's an emptiness that no mother should ever feel. Thank's for letting me share what talking about that time means to me.

Sara, I found it!!! I enjoyed seeing those pictures once again.now here is how I got there:
Find Linda's name, go back to page 40 of this, I believe we are on page 41. Anyway click on Quiltee...as if you were going to send her an email.
Then look where it says
Basics
Quiltee
Linda Olivera

Total posts 2282
and click on this: find all non archived posts by quiltee .

That takes you to a page of listings...go down to the bottom where it says there are 11 pages of search results. Click on page 5.
When you are on page five, scroll down to the fifth listing that says On the Porch Chatting with Friends July 2017. Click on page 1, scroll down...don't give up. It is way down the page and so worth jt.

Sara, I had no idea that your son passed away in 2017. For some reason I thought it was years ago. I'm sorry. I hope this memory walk has not made this day too painful today. Your Yellow Rose Cottage is adorable, so country, so vintage, I love it

I think of him all through the day/night but I am taken off guard sometimes my a memory. I'm having a good day so far. The storm didn't reach me till after 12 noon. It's not raining now but all of outside has that eerie light that makes one think it's not over.

Sara, I knew you would be able to put together a web address for your Yellow Rose Cottage. Much simpler than my round about way to get there.

I was just taking another look at your cottage Sara. It's very inspirational and I believe I spotted Annie at the door! Really has me thinking about doing something with a space of my own.

Denisse you get a gold star - that's my Annie. While Linda and I where inside Annie was keeping an eye on Ed. In that same picture you see a gate that goes into my front sideyard where the raised beds are. The back fence is just a little further from the cottage than the front fence. You can get some idea on how small my backyard is. The steps you see out of one of the windows leads to the deck.

On the empty worktable I now have crockpot and dehydrator. I have lots of dried beans I need to get back to canning.

Yesterday I made chicken mushroom broth and today I used a pint to cook Swiss chard - it was so good. I will defiantly make it again and hope to can some.

This morning I gathered dandelions and wild violet flowers for lunch. Also chives, oregano, and thyme from raised beds for seasoning. Will cook in homemade chicken mushroom broth. I have a cup of Betty's mashed potatoes in the freezer. That will make a tasty lite lunch.

Sara, sounds yummy!
I boiled three dozen banty eggs this morning.
My daughter in law told me how to drop them into boiling water, wait 11 minutes. Drain fill the pan with cold water, drain and repeat. She said they peel so easily...wrong!
Anyway, I had a quart plus 2/3 of another quart jar full, to add jalopenos, onion, garlic, black pepper, and the brine with red cool color into. So in a few days we will have pickled eggs.
The others that did not peel as easily became egg salad sandwiches for lunch. My husband had never had egg salad before. I told him it was my sandwich every time I took my lunch in high school. This was my first egg salad sandwich in 58 years. They were delicious!

Marilyn your pickled eggs sound delish. I've picked banty eggs in pickled beets juice.

When it comes to peeling eggs they either peel good or they don't. I pretty much do my the same way every time but it's the luck of the draw on how they do. Peeling under water does seem to help. I have made plenty of egg salad from eggs that wouldn't easily peel.

One day this week I hope to boil 6 eggs to mummify. During the winter I threw away the last of my chicken's eggs that I mummified three years ago. I have a 6 egg ceramic dish I got from MJF. I will put it on kitchen windowsill after the eggs finish mummifying. When they are going through the process they will go into the carport storage. They smell rank until done.

The best results I have ever had, peeling hard cooked eggs, is using my power cooker. Only problem is the timing. I don't think mine has a way to set it for three minutes. When I use the 10 minute rice setting...that is too long. But they peel like magic. Even if I go to the chicken pens, gather the eggs, come inside and cook them...perfect everytime.

We must all have the same idea...pickled eggs.
I don't have a problem peeling mine. I put cold eggs in cold water with a bit of baking soda. I time ten minutes from when they boil and plunge them in ice water right away. I like that I can do this even with the very fresh eggs. Peel every time.
I need to go out and add some fresh straw to the hen house and nests. They fluff up the nests until they are laying the eggs on bare wood. So time to get that stopped. I found two inside the coop yesterday. Usually that doesn't happen but I found one in the corner and one under one of the roosts.
Today they were all in the nests.

Every time I put hay in the nest boxes they scratch it out. So I started putting plenty of hay in a big pile, next morning they had gone through every bit, scattered it and some from their next boxes. So I fooled them and gave them pine shavings, they were not too proud, and got rid of some but most is still there. I do need to refill each one. Another reason I changed to shavings...They would hide the eggs under the hay. Some day it might be fun to put a camera in the pen, to see what they do all day. This I know...My big roo loves kibbles and bits dog food. Each day I scatter scratch in the
pen, as he stands there gazing up at me...as if to say hurry, hurry, gimme some kibbles and bits.

Sara do you heat the beat juice or just drop the eggs in the jar of left over best juice?I
Also have you ever made pickled peaches? I used to fix some each summer, then life got too busy...I guess.

I just drop the eggs into cold pickle beet juice. I do a jar at a time so they don't last long.

I have never made pickled peaches but we had them for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner when growing up. Used to be able to buy them in a round jar but haven't seen them in stores for years. I thought about making them so maybe this year I will give it a try if peaches go on sale. I do remember the peaches were studded with whole cloves - so pretty.

JT loves eggs pickled in beet juice. I just use left over and boil it with the rest of the ingredients. Have you ever done pickled green tomatoes? So good!
I've never done or even had pickled peaches.
