Pear butter sounds really yummy this time of year. I love all the fruit butters and pear is hard to find, so what a special treat to have in the pantry and fridge!

Well, I went over to the farm today and they had red delicious, Jonagold, Honey crisp, Empire and Mutsu they called them. Had not heard of those before. I got a big bag of empires. Will be making some apple butter as well as applesauce, and whatever apple goodies I can think of. I am going to see if I can find a recipe for apple bread. Something like banana bread but with apples.

Tomorrow Ed is going to make a coconut cake for my bunco group on Friday. It is one his former wife used to make. It’s a white cake mix in a 9 x 13 pan, when it’s done you poke holes in it and pour a can of eagle brand milk over it and sprinkle the top with coconut. You put it in the refrigerator and then Friday morning we will frost with Cool Whip and top with more coconut. He said it is super moist, and a very sweet cake. I’ll post the exact recipe if you’d like.

No fancy cooking today but I did spend the morning making waffles and putting 12 packages of them in the freezer. I seem to have over-purchased broccoli so I think we'll have broccoli-potato-cheese soup for dinner.
Linda, that coconut cake sounds wicked. Probably too high carb for me but it sure does sound good.

Linda that sounds yummy. My DIL brought my husband a nice big piece of Tres Leches cake, Monday night. The dad of a family he built a new home for about five years ago was 42. His wife invited Wade and his family to come out and eat, as they celebrated. That was the dessert.

Judith, 12 pkgs. you have been busy.

I made two loaves of apple bread today. Just took it out of the oven.
The Amish market had pumpkin spice cappuccino mix so I got some of that. When you love fall as much as I do it is never too early. So I am enjoying a slice of apple bread and a cup of pumpkin spice.
The a.c. is running and it is warm out but not too bad. Probably kicked on because I had the oven going. I took the apple peels out to the hens and they had a good time with those.
They are so tame with me that as soon as I open the back door they come running from all sides to see what I have. I have to be careful feeding them because they get right in front of me or in between my legs when I'm walking out there. Spoiled girls!

Isn't it funny how they get used to the person who brings treats...but yesterday when Baylee and I both went into the pullet pen...They freaked! I had forgotten how crazy they can be...

Usually I don't have treats. They follow me all around no matter where I go out there. A couple will go to the mailbox with me when I go. LOL. Sometimes they will come into the garage to see what im up to.

This morning my kitchen is busy with cooking for today and next week. On the stove is a pot of stew meat with mushrooms and home canned mushroom broth. Fresh rosemary, lemon thyme, and Syrian oregano. Simmering slow.

On the counter sliced salted eggplant draining to make eggplant parmesan for today and the freezer.

Annie's chicken thighs and my chicken broth after I wash up the pot stew meat is in. It's a 5 qt enamel cast iron Dutch oven and it's my favorite thing to cook with besides cast iron skillets.

Tomorrow it's roasted beets and other root veggies. Will cook beet greens today. The kale is prepped for the dehydrator.

That's what's going on in my kitchen. What's going on in yours.

Here is the Coconut Cake recipe. If course, it has NO calories or carbs. NOT!!!

Creme of Coconut Cake

1 white cake mix
1 can Eagle Brand Milk
1 Cup Coconut
1 6 oz pkg mini chocolate chips (Optional)
12 oz. cool whip
1 Cup Coconut

Prepare cake mix according to directions on the package and bake in 9"x13" pan. While cake is still warm, poke holes in cake and pour eagle brand milk over cake and sprinkle with coconut and mini chocolate chips. Place in refrigerator. Before serving, cover with cool whip and sprinkle with remaining coconut. Store in refrigerator.

NOTE: I did not use mini chocolate chips when I made it for my Bunco group.

Today is one of those days that my kitchen is abuzzin! I have a pot of chicken bone broth going, a pot of milk warming for making goat mozzarella cheese, kombucha tea brewing, and am about to get some tomatoes in the oven to make fire roasted tomatoes. I love love love this time of ear, where the summer hard work is bountiful in produce, canning jars are sealing, full of fresh produce for the winter, and the delicious smells are wafting through the house!

Sounds busy and pretty Shannon. I have always thought there is nothing much prettier than a pantry filled with jars of red tomatoes, green beans, yellow corn and jars and jars of jelly.

My Worm Factory was delivered yesterday and is set up in my kitchen ready for me to prepare it for the live worms when they arrive. Excited to have an efficient way to compost kitchen parings of veggies and fruits. Citrus is a no-no. Not only am I a FarmGirl at heart I am now a worm farmer or is that worm rancher.

Saw the ad in MJF latest magazine.

Linda what do you call more than one worm - a herd, a flock, a waggle, or a wiggle? I guess I could look it up but I sorta like waggle.

According to Siri a group of worms is called a clew, a bunch, a bed or a clat. I kinda like waggle better. LOL!

Do you think if enough of us keep calling it a waggle of worms, we can make it a thing???
