My husband's birthday is Tuesday. I think we may have hamburgers and fries, homemade. He will be 75. Gingerbread, which is a favorite of his will be the "cake".

Sammi has requested peach crisp/cobbler, eggs and sausage links for breakfast. For dinner she wants fried chicken, rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and cranberry sauce. Dessert is a two layer cake - half yellow and half chocolate

Wow, she is specific and blessed to have a family to honor her on her birthday. As a kid, I remember only one birthday. Sweet 16! My mother had a job(more money). We went out to dinner at a local family style eatery. We had fried chicken, butter beans (lima beans), Cole slaw and fried cornbread. It was served in bowls, just like at home. After we had eaten, a waitress appeared at our table with a beautiful pink cake with roses. I was shocked, very surprised! My mother had planned this special surprise just for Me. I asked if the cake was made right there and she told me that she had ordered it from a bakery and picked it up earlier and delivered it to the cafe. So you are creating memories much like mine, by making Danni feel sooo very special.

Aw thanks Marilyn <3 You are welcome to come over for dinner tomorrow night <3 We aren't always able to give our children gifts for their birthdays, so making their special meals for breakfast and dinner is my gift to them. Hubby is taking the day off as his gift to her :) My oldest will be decorating Sammi's cake with cats as her gift :) And her brothers will be doing her chores!

If I don't remember to tell you on Tuesday, please tell your hubby Happy birthday for us!

Growing up, when it was our birthday, we could tell my Mom what we wanted for dinner and she'd fix that. One year, I can't remember what birthday, I asked my mother if we could have spare ribs for dinner. Her comment was "I don't think so tonight; I just cleaned the oven. Why do you want spare ribs?" I replied back that it was my birthday request. We had spare ribs that night. LOL! She had forgotten it was my birthday.

Yesterday I started a batch of sauerkraut and a pint of snack tomatoes. Fermented snack tomatoes are my favorite but I can't eat too many of them because of the hi acid.

Marilyn - Happy Birthday to your hubby!!!

I think I may start my sour dough starters today... both an einkorn flour one and a gluten free one. I need to start another batch of my water kefir and get this last one on to its second fermentation.

Just got an e-mail from my great-niece, mother of 3 yo triplets, and she sent a picture of her rosemary crackers. She has been making all kinds of bread for months but this was her first try at crackers. They were beautiful. I am so proud of her. She even started her own sourdough starter.

She also has an herb garden so you know she is close to my heart.

Linda, I haven't talked to her about MJF. Maybe I should gift her a subscription to the mag.

Sara, I agree with Linda. Your great-niece might really enjoy the friendship of women her age on the Forum and the magazine for lifestyle tips for her home.

Winnie and Linda I will order it next month. I've spent all my spending money for this month. I spent the last of it today on Ball's new spiral wide mouth 28oz canning jar. Four to a case. Looking forward to canning or fermenting something in them. They're only available on-line store.

This morning I checked on my sauerkraut and tomatoes. Both are perking along nicely. There's a faint whiff of sauerkraut when I pass by the jar.

Yesterday was a snow day for me, so I decided to take an online cooking class on preparing Italian sauces. OMG, I have never made a tomato sauce that was so amazing in my whole life. Of course it did help a bit that I also made fresh pasta. I wanted to eat the whole thing! lol

I also made the Lisa Oz red lentil soup, so good for you. And I made a grain bread to go with the soup. That was going to be my dinner until I took that class! lol

Sounds delicious, Carole. Is there a particular site where you take these online courses? Maybe I should try that.

Nothing is going on in my kitchen for 2 weeks. I am in New Mexico and Arizona. LOL!

Linda, I took it on Craftsy. They had a special $19.99 - Bargain if you ask me. This is the class I took, worth every penny!

Linda have fun on your trip. Are you taking your motor home?

Carole your class sounds like it was well worth the money and you enjoyed it too. Pasta & bread making - I'm impressed.

We decided it was too windy to take the motor home - and since we've been in Albuquerque it has been nothing BUT wind! So good we didn't bring it. LOL!

Today we are going to drive the Musical Highway that is just outside of Albuquerque (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgizA_vDlzs) We are also going to drive up the back of Sandia Crest and then going to the artsy craftsy town of Madrid (pronounced with the accent on the first syllable, not like the city in Spain). Tomorrow we leave for Sedona, AZ - another artsy town - on our way to Gilbert, AZ, to stay with a high school classmate of mine for a few days.

Sara, after you dry/dehydrate your mushrooms, squash, etc how do you store them? How long do you think they will keep?
