I thought it might be nice to have a place to share recipes here.

That way we can all try our hand at some of the yummy things everyone enjoys making in the kitchen.

I would love to have some new recipes for peaches since that is what is coming on here now. If anyone has any they would be willing to share I'm sure we would all enjoy it!

Great idea. You were talking about peaches back in July. My family loves peaches. I peel them, add some sugar and stir every now and then until they gobble them down for dessert. They also enjoy a good peach cobbler.

Marilyn,
Would you share you recipe for Texas cornbread here? Or is it a family recipe? Sometimes I know some people don't care to share recipes handed down.
This is the recipes for Turtle Pumpkin pie and unfortunately Linda it is loaded with calories! I just realized it has pumpkin in it! We always call it Turtle pie so I guess I forgot what was in it.

Turtle Pumpkin Pie Prep time is 15min. total time 1hr. 15min makes 10 servings

1/4c. plus 2 tbs caramel ice cream topping, divided.

1 6 oz.graham cracker pie crust

1/2c. plus 2 tbs. chopped pecans

2 pkg. (3.4 oz) vanilla flavor instant pudding

1 c. cold milk

1c. canned pumpkin

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

1/2. ground nutmeg

1 8oz. container of cool whip topping thawed and divided.

Pour 1/4 c. caramel topping into crust; sprinkle with 1/2 c. nuts

Beat pudding, milk, pumpkin and spices until well blended. Stir in 1 1/2 cups of cool whip; spoon into crust.

Refrigerate 1 hr. Top with remaining cool whip, drizzle 2 tbsp.caramel over top and sprinkle with 2 tbsp. chopped nuts.

Store remainder in refrigerator. (We rarely have any left to store)

Linda,
I don't think you will be able to go for just one piece. Lol. I didn't make it last year but I said I would when dd asked so I've been adding those ingredients to my list. Probably not the healthiest. But so Good!
Anyone else have favorite Thanksgiving recipes they'd like to share?
I'm always looking for things to try.

Marilyn's Recipe
I bake two pans of cornbread.
Next I cut up celery and onions. This year I cut up the hearts and leaves from three celery stalks. (We use a lot of celery this time of year because I stuff it with cheesy goodness that my family loves.)
After the celery is cut up as well as two large onions, I put it all in a saucepan with a stick of butter, turn the burner to medium and saute. Then I add a can of chicken broth, cover and simmer. After half an hour remove from the heat, allow to cool and refrigerate overnight.
To assemble: crumble the cornbread in a large pot or bowl. Add some light bread or hamburger buns or something. Just three buns is plenty. Tear them up into bits.
Now add the celery that you have reheated. Also add a can of cream of chicken soup and a can of mushroom soup.( If you cook a turkey and have drippings use those...the reason I use soups is because Julie cooks the turkey breasts or whole bird. So I don't have any drippings.).
Stir all of that up then break 6 or 8 eggs, and beat with a fork, add to the dressing and mix in well. Now for the seasonings...I use both sage and poultry seasonings. I can't tell you an exact measurement because I start with a jar lid full of each, stir it in, then I adjust after my taste tester tells me what else I need to add. My husband is the taste tester. I may need a bit more salt, more poultry seasoning, a bit more sage and some black pepper. I always add garlic powder, just about 1/2 teaspoon.
Now my mother always said the dressing should be loose when it goes into the oven because baking it dries it out. True. So if you think you need more liquid add more chicken broth or just a bit of water.
I am very careful with sage, because my mother in law once used so much sage, her dressing was green. Yuck!
I butter my Pyrex dishes and scoop in the dressing mixture. Bake at 400° for 45 minutes up to an hour. Just watch it. I
I'm a dump and pour cook. I adjust seasonings as I go.
This is the thing I taught Julie long ago. To bake a turkey or turkey breasts, first make a bed of celery, full length pieces, and alternate with carrots. This makes a nice raft for your bird to rest upon. Then add these fruits to the cavity of a whole bird or around a couple of breasts...an apple, an orange and a grapefruit! Do not peel, but do cut the fruits up into quarters.
The purpose of the fruit is to make the turkey moist. Does the turkey taste fruity...NO! Just moist and yummy. Cover the bird with a tent of foil or a heavy brown grocery bag after rubbing down with butter or olive oil or??? And seasoning his outter skin. (Or you can use a turkey sized oven bag.)
About 20 minutes before the cooking time is over, remove the tent, so your big boy can get his sun tan. If you have a convection oven it will come in handy here.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my MJF sisters.
I'm making an apple pie this morning...from some Freeze dried diced apples I had in my storage. The filling is ready, just need to make the topping. I learned something...Vietnamese cinnamon is sweet and yum! I had never tasted cinnamon without it being mixed with other things. W o w!!!
I'm in charge of spicy Brussel sprouts, fried green beans, stuffed celery, fried okra and candied sweet potatoes. Julie does the big bird, stuffing, rolls, etc. She cooks sweet potatoes but has never allowed herself to put in enough sugar and butter to make the thick candy sauce. She got closer last year, but Hadlee always says, "Gran, you are cooking sweet potatoes aren't you???"
My crazy family!!! I hope you enjoy yours today too.
Baylee took off work tomorrow to shop with us. We have gone to a town about thirty miles away since they were eight and eleven, but she missed our fun for the past three years. Our fun begins at Home depot...of all p!aces. I guess we are carpenter/farmer/red necks. But we enjoy our time together.

I posted this recipe on MJF main forum but in case you missed it here it is. I really like this scone and you can taste the cream.

Rich Cream Scones
From: Scone Recipes: Amazing Scone Baking Race by Jennifer C. Petersen and Friends

Ingredients:

1 cup cake flour – sifted
2 cups all-purposed flour
½ cup sugar – additional for sprinkling on top
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
¾ cup cold unsalted butter – cut into small cubes
1 ¼ cup cold heavy whipping cream – plus more for brushing
¼ tsp vanilla extract

Procedure:

Preheat oven to 375 F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper or Silpat.

In a large bowl, sift together flours, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in butter to pea size. With your fingers flatten butter pieces into small discs. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for one hour to firm the butter bits.

In a small bowl, combine heavy cream and vanilla extract. Stir into flour mixture until almost absorbed and dough just comes together. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured work surface. Roll into an 8” by 10” rectangle. With the short side facing you, fold rectangle into thirds, folding like a letter. Rotate dough a quarter turn clockwise. Repeat rolling out, folding, and rotating 2 more times. With floured hands pat dough out to a 1 ¼” thickness. Using a 2 ½” cookie or biscuit cutter cut out rounds.

Gather scraps, reroll once and cut more rounds (about 12 total).

Place scones 2” apart on prepared baking pan. Brush tops with cream and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake at 375 F until golden brown, about 18-20 min. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Note: I followed recipe until cutting out. I cut the rectangle into 3 sections lengthwise – then 3 sections crosswise. Cut each piece in half on the diagonal. yield 18 Plus 4-5 odd pieces cut from the sides when I evened-up the sides. Used same baking time.
