Judith the arthritis in my thumbs is quite painful some days. Guiding fabrics through the machine, actually sometimes it feels like pulling it is so hard to do. I have a rather new singer as well as a little Bernette that my husband bought at the flea market. Neither one can stitch through several layers of fabric easily. I have four old Bernia 830 machines that no longer work and no longer do they make parts for them. They were such heavy duty machines, and yet they did the most beautiful applique work. I cried when #3 died!

Marilyn -- I know the feeling! I have an old Bernina 730 from 1970. It started having problems about ten years ago so I took it in for repair. It had a cracked gear and Bill really went above and beyond trying to find the part but wasn't successful. I bought a new Bernina QE when they were on sale. I love it. So far it sews through anything that will fit under the presser foot. I also have a collection of old machines and some of them do a good job too. If you can find an old Singer 15 or 201 at a garage sale or thrift shop that might work well for you. Parts for them are still easily found and they are easy to fix. No fancy stitches but good dependable straight stitchers. Unfortunately I haven't yet found a solution for the arthritis. Some days are good and some days are bad. The doctor gave me prednisone but I stopped taking it because the side effects out balanced the benefits.

That is such a sweet thought. I've been sewing on the singer this morning. It is behaving at the mmoment. I'm making masks for family. I've tried three patterns. I finally found one that I like, it fits good and is quicker to complete.

Ladies of you are interested in making masks I found a place that has good tutorials and a great pattern. It looks a bit like a bra. Fast to see together.

I will save the pattern just in case. I asked my doctor at our hospital if they needed masks and she said they were good for now but would let me know if they needed any in the future.

Our local hospital just posted about finally accepting masks and gave drop off times, etc. Unfortunately, the pick up day is Friday...not giving a lot of time. Maybe this is just for an initial donation and they'll take more later.

Debbie, make masks for yourself and everyone in your family. Then make them to give away. Your ambulance crews may need some. If I were in an accident it would certainly make me feel better if everyone was wearing a mask...including myself. I realize that the crew does wear them. Police, fire, rescue, nursing homes, the list seems to be endless.

My printer is still at old house. I can’t print out pattern yet. Then I will make some. I need to find my elastic. I think it is in one of my small tubs of trims.

Guess what...yesterday I watched part of a mask tutorial...where the lady said there is no 1/4" elastic available to purchase in stores. So she said ties work and some medical people prefer ties anyway. If you make a casing on each end of the mask to run the ties thru...it takes 18" for each end.

I saw that, too, Marilyn. I was thinking I will make some of the pleated masks today, but I need some good flannel. I have some, but it isn't the best quality, so don't think it will work. I will make some for US to use and use 2 layers of flannel and the outer cotton, but will try to order some good flannel online today.

I have been reading a lot. I have lots of books to keep me occupied. Went through many yesterday and my magazines too and sorted and put a lot aside to donate later on.

While cleaning out the house I have a lot of magazines to donate, but I doubt the medical facilities would want them now so will keep for later. I also have a lot of books that I want to donate to senior living places or rehab centers so they can be read by a lot of people. Again, nothing is open now for health and safety reasons.

Cute, Darlene! I like your surgeon's advice! Any Dr that tells you to stay home so you can work on craft projects gets an A in my book!!

Oh that was funny Debbie! Thanks! Apparently, I didn’t know this until today that he is the one who removed the infected knee and told me I almost died.,
Wow! I like him.He was trying to send me back to the other doctor and I asked him why, so anyway he is going to do the surgery after the virus is gone. So that gives me plenty of craft time. Yay and reading too.
We shall see what I end up doing.
Thank you Marilyn I will show the finished rock soon.

Well ladies take care and be safe out there.

I love you all!
Blessings

Darlene

Spent a lot of time reading yesterday afternoon and cleaning my bedroom up a bit. My dresser sometimes gets to be a catch all for some reason.

Darlene, I am happy that your surgeon is who you like and trust because that is important, I think. Your current rock project is really cute too! Now that you have input on needing to hold off on the surgery at the moment, I am so happy you are home and and able to enjoy doing those projects that have been fun for you to do. Enjoy this time and stay well!!
