I wasn't very happy as I was chasing her around the farm!!! But I can laugh about it now :) As "they" say - all's well that ends well and it ended well LOL!

I think I used up my luck uploading photos on what I've been doing in the kitchen. I can't get the calf photos to work now :( We have more!!! It's late so I'll try again tomorrow. We're going to an auction but should be home in time to try before milking. I have some new ones of the twins too :)

Baby girl in the back peaking over the gate - baby boy up front with mama. Mama kept us up late having her baby and then while we were milking the next morning this is what she was doing:

sound asleep - flat out on her side with her head in the feeder LOL! I said she was resting up for battle. I wanted to sell this cow before she ever had her baby because she's nuts. She's disliked me almost her entire life (I'm not joking). I could never pet her or even get close to her without her making a run for it. I was afraid with the way we milk she'd seriously hurt one of us or break a lot of equipment. I'm VERY happy to report she has proven me wrong. She still doesn't like to be pet and she still acts a bit nuts but she settled down very well for milking. She doesn't kick at all and doesn't care when we touch her for milking. And she's a good producer!

A big baby boy out of one of my favorite cows. Not the best picture, but he was running around so much it's the best of all the ones I took.

We had another heifer yesterday but I didn't get her picture yet. It was a surprise to see her in the pasture and the cow she was getting breakfast from was not her mom LOL! It took a bit to figure out which one was her mom since she left her under the care of others while she went to get some breakfast herself :) We have another one that's due any day now.

And look what we found when we went to move the water tank that we're not using right now:

More kittens!!!

I have some more pictures but it's a bit after 10 and supper is done so I better get off here and dish it up - it was a late night.

Heather, I always wondered about cow “ communication “…when we would be feeding or checking on the cows and there would be a couple of designated “ babysitters “ in the bunch. One time one of the bulls was left with about half a dozen little ones, it was pretty cute. My dad said, “Oh, dad’s babysitting today,”

I'm not sure how herds are where the calves stay with the cows (such as beef herds and a few dairy farms). We have what I call adopted mama's in our herd. There are a couple cows that will fight to take over any baby they can get. A lot of them just want to be near the new baby. I don't know how they would be to other babies if their baby was by their side. I know that especially in dairy herds they've been bred over the years to me more docile and friendly. A lot of the beef herds - especially out on the open range are the complete opposite. Our dairy herd is very safe. Nothing is going to come attack them but on the open range there are predators that the mamas have to protect the babies from so their natural instincts are more desired.

I can tell you that they have some kind of silent communication about who's boss though. There are a couple cows that if they're in the alley the other cows won't leave the parlor until I clear out the alley. It's a real pain in the butt sometimes LOL!

I'll try to get some in the next couple days before we start back in making hay. I'm not sure if it's my internet service or something with the forum but it takes forever for a picture to upload if I can get it to work at all. I do have a couple of the twins I want to share.

Fingers crossed:

WOo HOo! It worked! This is snowflake giving me a look LOL.

Let's try again:

We're on a roll now :) Here's dewdrop making sure you can see how clean her nose is LOL!

This is one of the very rare times they were standing beside each other. They usually don't. Snowflake likes to charge her way through to be the first in the feeder and Dewdrop waits until everyone is done pushing and shoving which means she usually winds up with a feeder to herself until one of the others is empty then they come share with her. There are 7 calves in the pen and they're weaned now. But they still hope it's milk instead of grain in the bucket :)

We've had a couple more heifer calves:

The only way I could get this one to stand still was to let her suck on my fingers.

You can't see it in the picture but she has a white heart on her face.
The black one has the same dad - I bet it's where they get the heart :)

I better post this before I loose all these pictures!

Since I see them everyday it doesn't seem like they're growing all that fast until I compare them to a new baby. Then it's sometimes shocking how fast they're growing LOL!

I just tried to upload some more pictures but it's not working again. Maybe later I'll have good luck again. I wanted to show you the helicopter that sprayed the corn field

That is so true Debbie! Sad, but true!

I'm glad you all like the pictures. We just had a baby bull born a few minutes ago. I'll take some more pictures :) He's a holstein angus cross.
