I was looking over my badges. I don't have many but have some things finished so I need to apply for them. I also need to find where I put the ones I alreasy have. I am thinking I will take them and get them stitched while we are traveling soon.
I am torn between putting them on squares to make a small quilt or doing something else. Maybe putting them on an apron or jacket.

You can find a Levi's jacket or skirt in a thrift shop and put them on that. Then you can wear it proud.

I have a Levi's vest but I'm thinking a jacket might be better for the sleeves to hold more badges.

I love both ideas. I only have a few badges and I had planned to put them on a big tote that I use from time to time. I just never get organized enough to do the project. Right now they are in a big 3 ring notebook with some other MJF things I have saved.

I will have to email Brian because I seemed to have lost one of my badges. The one for cleaning up under going green. I don't know for sure what the design was but I have my certificate for it.

This thread has made me take another look at my Merit Badges:
Collect It 1, 2, 3
Quilting 1, 2, 3
UFOs 1, 2, 3
Jubilee 1, 2
Aprons 1, 2, 3

I thought I had also completed and sent in Knitting and some Crochet, but cannot find them and MJF seems to have no record of me turning them in.

I also noticed that I write way too much when submitting for my Merit Badges. I found several of my submissions on the Merit Badge thread by date approved, and it appears that Mary Jane (or her designee) posts whatever the farmgirl submits and most submit maybe a small paragraph or two; all of my badge write-ups were at least 1/2 a typed page per level. Well, now when I resubmit the Knitting and Crochet I will limit my verbiage. I thought they wanted detailed specifics, maybe I was incorrect.

Do you know, Winnie, what the differences are in the look of the merit badges for the 3 levels? Does the Beginner badge have 1 border, the Intermediate a second border, and the Expert a third? I think that's what I had seen several years ago. Thanks!

Linda, I think those borders are exactly what you mentioned. Somewhere I think I read that too but I can't remember where I saw it. I also tend to me wordy and write a lot but really I don't think that is essential. If you hit the highlights of your badge experience then that is good enough. I think it is Brian who handles the badge program most of the time. There might be others but I don't know who they are.

When I asked a question a couple years ago about my badges Brian sent it on to Ashley, who answered it.

Winnie - If you go on the badges page ( http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/farmgirl-sisterhood/merit-badges.asp ) it says the following. Denise told me she had found what I thought I'd seen, I googled it, and this is the page with all the links to the lists of badges available. Here is what it says:

"When you see a Sister wearing a Knitting Merit Badge with just one outline stitch, you’ll know she’s accomplished the Beginner Level in Knitting; if it has two outlines, you’ll know she’s accomplished the Intermediate Level; three outlines, and she’s a Knitting Expert!"

Linda,
I assume that the dotted outline is the beginner level?

Yes, Winnie - the dotted/dashed line is the beginner, and when you get the badge the other two lines are not shown. I guess you just add them later.

I received the badge with the dash line (beginner) and a lighter line around the dash line which I think is for intermediate. I guess I'll have to do the last level to find out what is on that one!

I have 3 or 4 merit badges that I did completely - all three levels - and turned in at the same time. I only got one badge, with the dashed line. Maybe I need to request all the badges with the rest of the lines? how far apart are the lines? I can easily just sew them without a line to follow. It would be harder to display three badges with the same picture on a purse or jacket and 3 lines means you've done all three levels.

LOL! Glad to inspire you, Sherry.

IMHO I really do not need a merit badge to prove I am proficient in a skill. In order to achieve the requirements for the badges I have I had to submit projects for all 3 levels. I think it is interesting to look at the list of badges to see all the topics. Some are very easy to complete and others are more labor and time intensive.

I had printed mine on printable fabric (that's how I came to the idea of printed the henhouse badge that Darlene had created). However, I have not done anything with them. I even have the badge book, haven't filled that out yet. I do "need" to get going on that.

Do you just print of the badge then and do each outer line with a different color? I will have to look on the main forum. I think someone posted a picture of how they display them.
