My kids did have more toys than I had but never so many we had to downsize them. Maybe because we were military we moved every few years. My girls were pretty close in age so once they outgrew them there wasn't anyone to whom we could pass them. Same with my son.

Family didn't buy a lot of toys. Everything had to be mailed so it was usually things like an outfit and a small thing like crayons and coloring books or books. I always liked when my mom and dad sent consumables like that. Nothing we had to hang on to and my kids always liked getting new clothes.

Growing up we had toys, but not what I'd call tons of them. Before Christmas my mother would ask us to pick some toys to donate to make room for new toys. It wasn't that we ran out of room for toys but I think more so others could enjoy them, too. We liked puzzles, games and books, and those were always there. I still have many of the childrens books and have given some to my grandchildren. I had a Barbie doll or 2 and made clothes for them, but never had the Barbie houses, cars, etc. like they have now.

So I did a thing. I went to Hobby Lobby and of course they have their fall stuff on sale so I had to pick up some things to decorate my front porch area.. Thinking about doing a swap to celebrate fall here in the henhouse. Will post when it gets a bit closer.

LOL!!! I happened to go to Hobby Lobby two weeks ago and they were busy unpacking big boxes to add to what was already out. It was fantastic and yes, I came home with a few things because most of it was 40% off!! it is indeed a danger to wander in for embroidery floss and come out with two bags full 45 minutes later!!! LOL!!!

Another Hobby Lobby question…how many others take pictures of things knowing that you can full well make them yourself without having to buy a single item???!!! That would be me!! Lol :)

Me, too! Especially at craft fairs. LOL! But so many things can be made for less cost than buying the whole thing.

I take pictures at craft fairs and bazaars. Most of the vendors at PIQF - Pacific International Quilt fair -- don't want you to take pictures but they seem to happen anyway. I just have my friend stand in front of whatever I want a picture of so it looks like I'm taking a picture of her.

I never take a photo of something I might try to make, but it is a great idea. My problem is that if I have other stuff going and I still want the item, I will purchase it. But, I also get something, bring it home, and realize it doesn't fit right or I don't think it is actually something I need to have. Then I have to take it back for a refund which is also just another thing to do. Lately, more and more, if I don't purchase the item, don't take the time to try and create it at home, I usually either go back and get it or let the idea pass me by. Most of the time, the item just passes on as cute and fun but not really essential after all. Hobby Lobby is only a few miles from my house so that also makes it easier to go home and "think about it".

Okay here's an announcement - We got some good news a few weeks ago and I can share it now. Our DIL, Ed's son's wife, is pregnant with a boy and due in February. Ed is happy it is a boy to carry on the Ballard name; their daughter is 20 and will be 21 when the baby is born. This is considered a geriatric pregnancy (mother over 35) because the soon-to-be-new-mom is 48. Here is a copy of the announcement they put on FB - you can see his humor at the end of it. Breezy (the big-sister-to-be) is currently living overseas until November, and her comment to them when they told her on FaceTime they were pregnant was "I guess I can never leave you two alone again." Seems this happened very shortly after she left on her trip. SURPRISE!

Prayers welcomed. The doctor says Mom and baby are doing great!

Yes - Ed and I are looking forward to babysitting a new grandson and we promised not to put him down and forget where we put him. LOL!

**********************************************

So… We are negative for Covid, but positive for the surprise of a lifetime! We are expecting the most amazing and unexpected addition of a baby boy to our family in February 2023.
We never planned to be walking this path in life again. This is God’s biggest plot twist yet! We are so thankful He trusted us with this blessing and know that we are not walking this road alone.
The love and joy we have received from those already in the know has been exactly what we needed in a time when we were trying to wrap our minds around this. We have an amazing community of family and friends that the little guy will be blessed to have in his life.
I doubt this post raises any questions in your mind, but in the event it does below are some answers we have prepared in advance:
NO - This isn’t a joke.
NO - Breezy doesn’t know. We thought it’d be too hard to tell her on the phone so we decided to post it here instead.
YES - We know we are old.
NO - This wasn’t planned.
YES - We know what causes this.
NO - This was not supposed to be possible.
YES - The doctor is as surprised as we are.
YES - We know for those of you close to our age, when you say “Congratulations” what you really mean is “We are glad it’s you and not us!”.
YES - We know when we take the baby anywhere in public, everyone will think we are babysitting our grandchild.
YES - We are all excited!!!

I am so ready for fall but not the shorter daylight hours. Can't wait to get the house smelling good with drying apples. I am lighting candles and decorating my mantle today!

A quilt is already in the thinking stages of the works. LOL! The papa-to-be is ticket manager for the Mavericks basketball team, so the baby quilt will be a Mavericks theme. He is getting me a Mavericks t-shirt or 2 (he can get free) for the center and I will get Mavericks fabric for the blocks around the center. Trying to decide whether to do just 9-patch blocks or Turning Twenty blocks. I'm thinking Turning Twenty of O can find my pattern for them. I'm going to look online.
