Happy November 1st! All Saints Day. Gratitude or gratefulness. Something I am learning to be is grateful. There is so much going on in our world these days BUT I am grateful for the little things, the kindness of others, the opportunity to encourage someone else as we walk along our journey, there really is so much for which to be grateful even in our topsy turvy world if only we take the time to see it. We can never have too much gratitude in our hearts!
Enjoy this fantastic month! The last full month for fall.

I agree with you Denise! I am working hard on being grateful every day. It is easy to take things for granted and not stop and realize the many good things in your life everyday.

I love November because it feels like a more quiet month in the early part. As Thanksgiving nears, the holiday excitement for Christmas begins to heat up. The earlier weeks are less hectic and with cooler days , the pace of life can slow down just a bit.

I have much to be thankful for. Today it is for the rain that fell while DH and I were out in the rhino. It didn't last long, just enough to get me drenched head to toe. I loved it.

I believe that it’s so important to keep gratitude in your heart and mind. When we look for the things to be thankful for, it keeps our focus on what’s good in our lives. :)

No matter how bad life gets there is always something to be thankful for. Yesterday while at a standstill in rush hour traffic we admired the most gorgeous big layers of fluffy clouds with silver linings. Mother Nature put on a wonderful display for our viewing pleasure.

Today, I got to have lunch with a friend I haven't been able to connect up with in awhile. We had such a good visit and I am grateful that today was a day she was able to get together.

Those are fantastic things to be grateful for ladies. Even though I have sinus trouble and a sore throat, I am thankful for some down time to rest. Peter called me this morning and that started my day great. So grateful we can be nearby while they are growing up.

My pies won't be sitting on the window sill because it is too cold outside. I can't believe how fast November seems to be flying by. Will be half over tomorrow.

I'm grateful for dentists. I have a tooth that broke but it is able to be saved and I want to keep all I have for as long as I can!

No Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving! I was at the bank last week and they turned on the music and my teller moaned "Oh no -- not Christmas music yet" so I guess I'm not the only one. Let's make the most of Thanksgiving. I'm trying hard to be thankful; this year sure has us down in the dumps. We are having our Thanksgiving dinner today; DH will be gone next week so we have a turkey in the oven, pumpkin pudding made, and sourdough bread rising.

I am loving each one of these cute photos you find!

Judith, I am with you about Christmas. When it all arrives so soon, it takes out that little magic vibe that I remember as a child. Now with Christmas in your face before the carved Pumpkins rot, I just get numb from it all and it reinforces that problem of commercializing the holiday. The Advent Season before Christmas is all about anticipation and quiet. I enjoy that pathway much better.

I guess my holiday heart beats to a different drummer. lol I LOVE Christmas and I go ALL OUT decorating and preparing...so...I'm out there shopping for additions to my decor as soon as it goes up in the stores! I have a list each year of what I'd like to add so I start shopping early when the selection is best! I also have to pack and mail all my gifts since everyone has moved out of state. In order to get it all done I must start early and I actually buy gifts year round when I see a certain item. I love love it and make the season last as long as I possibly can. When the fall decor is up in my house I'm preparing in the "background" for the Christmas to start going up November 1st. Slowly transforming the house and porch. Enjoying the process and savoring the Christmas Spirit!
Have a great Thanksgiving week everyone! Blessings to you and your families!

Well, I have already put my tree up yesterday as I like to do it when I have help to get it done or it takes me forever. Right now it is only the tree. I haven't brought up anything else yet. Our pumpkin went to the squirrels as they had started eating it while it still on the porch. My mums are still out with my fall wreath on the door but that will come down soon I saw a house on our corner putting their outside decor up. I know everyone is different. Here in the Midwest everyone seems to go with the weather. Since we've had snow already people are feeling Christmasy. I like the Christmas spirit to last as long as possible.

I know Winnie is probably just now getting her fall weather. So I can understand some not wanting to rush Christmas. But it will be here before we know it. I too have send gifts and we have these birthdays yet so I get started as soon as I can.

We are going on a cruise for 2 weeks after thanksgiving so I think I may have a tree this year with only the lights (a pre-lit tree). It's 7' tall and has a lot of lights and will look very nice in the corner. It will be simple and colorful. I have lots of other Christmas decorations - all beds have Christmas quilts on them, a Christmas quilted throw on the couch, numerous Christmas pillows, and other festive decorations.

Here is a quick and easy way to make dining room chairback covers (for most chairs):
NOTE: I know some of these may be confusing, but they are easy to make. A friend of mine gave me the basic ideas.
1 buy some of the larger drawstring felt "character" bags from Big Lots (and some other places).
2 Because the decorations on the bag are upside down for use as a chairback cover, turn the bag inside out and remove the top drawstring seam and bottom bag seam.
3 Now sew a seam across what was the top of the bag.
4 Measure from the top of the chairback to the seat and measure the length of the bag. Remove both side seam stitches from the bottom up to the needed length of the chair back.
5 Sew a narrow seam around the decorated side of the bottom edges and turn the plain side to the inside (you can tack to the seam allowance if you want).
6 Turn the bag rightside out and slip the bag over the back of the dining room chair.
NOTE: I bought bags quite a few years ago from Big Lots after Christmas on sale. Below is a picture of the chairback covers I made. And a picture of the sides where I had to remove side seams to fit the chair seat height.
