I can hardly believe we are in the last month of this year. Seems it was just August and we were waiting for fall to arrive.
I have already started Christmas shopping as I have packages to send.
Yesterday I spent the day from 9 until 2:30 wrapping gifts at the school as the children were shopping at the Holiday store they have set up in the library. It was a very long day. Some of them were very organized with their lists and others decided when they got to wrapping who they were giving which gifts to, so that took a bit longer. It was the kindergarten through fourth grade so both my grandgirls were there. I could only wrap for one because the other had purchased a gift for me. They were all so cute though. Some of the boys were a bit shy or confused and needed a bit of help. It was fun but I was quite tired when I left. I hadn't eaten and couldn't decide when I got home if I wanted to eat or nap. I opted for lunch and managed to get a few things done.
I hope and pray that each of you has a wonderful month full of Christmas joy as we prepare for this special holiday.

Denise, what a super volunteer gift you gave the school! I can only imagine how tiring it was and with no food no wonder you were exhausted by the end.

I also cannot believe that December and Christmas season arrived today. For me, 2022 zoomed by faster and faster every month. I am in the midst of putting away ny fall decorations and pulling out Christmas. We are having another warm streak and this coming weekend into next week will be 80 degrees every day. We love a real tree but such warm weather dries them out quickly and they are already browning by Christmas Day. It really tamps down on that cozy fireplace and hot chocolate kind of experience. Our Christmas will be very simple again this year. Our youngest was here for Thanksgiving weekend so just my daughter, her hubby, and another local friend will be here for brunch Christmas morning. After such a busy Thanksgiving week getting ready and then having company, a small Christmas morning brunch sounds just perfect!!

A Christmas brunch sounds great Winnie.
Since Christmas falls on Sunday this year, I'm not sure how we be doing ours with the family. I thought I'd just wait and see what the kids are planning. Our services won't start until 10:45. Not sure when their's start. I'm sure we will work it out though.

Today is a good indoor day with the rain we are getting. May do some baking.
Going to try and do some gingerbread house decorating with the girls soon. I have some books in my TBR pile to spend time with today also. And of course a warm cup of something.

Denise, baking is the best idea for a rainy day . It just adds that touch of sweetness in the air to deflect from the dreary outside. I always have my stack of books TBR along with a list for the next ones when I finish the one waiting on my. Like you, I am a bookaholic with no desire to be cute!!

Two of the 4 grandchildren worked on our tiny gingerbread houses yesterday. Came out cute. The eldest came over to work on a gift for her Papa (JT) while he was at work. When she was finished we still had some time so she wanted to work on her house. Her brother was here earlier and did his. He had a little mishap this past Saturday and got rug burn on his nose. He misstepped and took a tumble on the stairs. As you can see he is fine except for the scrape. Little boys. My own boy fell out of a tree when he was around 12 and scared the life out of me Went to the ER and fortunately it only knocked the wind out of him. Anyway these are a couple photos I managed to get of them.

It does Darlene. I hope he can get past the part where it itches without picking at it. I'd hate for him to have it take so long to heal.

Cute gingerbread houses, Denise. Looks like the kids had fun!

Well, our cruise was great - good weather, fun, nice excursions, and met new friends. However, we came home to some bad news, and not sure how to handle it yet. On Thursday the cat sitter texted me, and I happened to get the text while on shore and had free internet for a bit. Seems one of our cats, Calli, is blind. She had been acting a little strange before we left - getting closer than usual to our other cat -- the two didn't get along well for the 3 years they've been together. Well, they noticed that she seemed to be bumping into things on the patio, and staying on the patio and not going out into the yard like she usually did. She had trouble finding her food. She has not lost weight, so she is eating well. She had often been eating out of CePoo's dish instead of her own - maybe because that was the one she found first? Ed brought her into the house and petted her on his lap for a while. He put her down and I was talking. She walked somewhat towards me, but bumped straight into the couch. Then she turned around, walked across the room and bumped right into the piano leg. She walks gingerly, probably because she cannot see anything, and is being more careful now.

I will call the vet tomorrow and take her in. Don't know what is causing this, but guess we need to find out. Her eyes are not cloudy, but Ed has also waved his hand in front of her face and she doesn't move - at all - or follow his hand. This is so sad to see her this way. She is at least 13 years old, so it could just be old age - but seems both eyes have gone at once. I'll keep everyone posted.

A little tidbit of info for today.

Here's a little bit of history about the poinsettia for you. A bit lengthy but informative.
Poinsettias were introduced to the United States by Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first appointed U.S. ambassador to Mexico. In 1825 while visiting Taxco he became enchanted with the red blooms and sent some plants to his home in Greenville, South Carolina. Poinsett, a skilled botanist, propagated the plants and began distributing the plants to friends and various botanical gardens. Within a few years, plants eventually reached Robert Buist, a nurseryman, who is believed to be the first person to sell the plant in the United States. In 1833, the plant was given the common name poinsettia, the name-sake of Joel Poinsett.

The poinsettia industry was pioneered and developed by the Ecke family. In the 1920’s, Albert and Paul Ecke began field growing poinsettias in the Hollywood and Beverly Hills area. Today the Paul Ecke Ranch located in Encinitas, California is the major producer of poinsettia mother plants used for cuttings by commercial growers.

Today, no holiday scene would be complete without a poinsettia. The modern poinsettia only slightly resembles the tall, leggy, red plant that grew wild throughout Central America.

The poinsettia we see today comes from many years of breeding and engineering. During the mid-1950’s plant breeding research began and has led to many the current improved varieties and cultivars. Today’s poinsettia is a free-branching hybrid plant with larger, longer lasting bracts. Hybridizing has resulted in colors including: cream, yellow, peach, pink, salmon, and marbled. Red poinsettias still account for more than 70 percent of sales.

Congress has given the poinsettia recognition by declaring December 12 as national poinsettia day. This day honors Joel Poinsett who died on December 12, 1851.
