I'm in! I'm actually teaching a little "Farmerette" group so it will be fun to work on my own, but also help the farmerettes!

I just applied for the Farmgirls Best Friend Badges. Beginner, intermediate and expert level. The first ones I have ever applied for. Thanks for the incentive Heather.

I finally found it Julie. Great Badge and reading the requirements made me think of a few things.

Julie - I find it very hard to believe you've never applied for badges before! I bet there's a bunch of them you already do in your everyday activities.

You are right Heather, after looking through all the badges available there are many I have already accomplished in my life and a few I am most interested in doing. We will see how it goes filling out the applications and accumulating the documentation for them.

I know what you mean LOL! I still haven't applied for the canning badges, or the herb badges, or...all the things I do all the time :)

Once you get the e-mail saying you earned a badge from Ashley (or whoever is doing it now) please post on here. I'll use Krista's idea and update the original post to show how many we've earned. We'll see how that goes. If we get a lot of discussions going or if things get too confusing we can change it in the future :)

Heather, just to clarify, is each level of a badge counted as one "badge", or do we have to earn all three levels before it counts?

I was wondering if they have changed that the things we do to earn the badges have to be done in the same year we apply? It used to be you couldn't use something you have accomplished previously.

I have a question on the levels of badges. Do we end up with 3 embroidered lines for each badge. For each level there is a line around the previous one. Anyone know?

Denise, as far as I know they do not have to be the same year. I know some of my stuff that I just applied for yesterday was from last year and I just now gathered my stuff and got it submitted. I think they just mean they want you to purposefully do the requirements to earn the badge and not use past experiences. Example, one of the badge requirements is to cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner over a campfire. I have done this a thousand times over the years, but when I get around to earning that badge, I will conscientiously cook those three meals again and submit the results of that experience rather than trying to recall random meals I've cooked over the years that had nothing to do with MJF badges at all. Does that make sense?

As for the badge outlines, yes. Each level is a new outline just outside the previous one. Hope this helps, sister! :)

Thanks Hannah for clarifying. Does everyone embroider those 3 lines on their badges?

You are welcome! Glad I could help. As for the lines, I think most do if they are embroidering their badge. They embroider each new line as they earn that level. I personally have made little jewelry things that I hang on a board with different colored fabric strips to indicate the level earned. I think there is a bit of wiggle room for personal interpretation and creativity.

It's a work in progress, but this is how I've chosen to display my badges. I hang them off color co-ordinated rag strips. Red for Expert, blue for Intermediate, and brown for Beginner.

Thank you! I started off trying to embroider fabric badges, and I got a few done. But it was super hard for me to get the design printed to fabric and I quickly realized that time was an issue as well, so this was my alternative. Maybe one day I can revisit embroidering them, but for now this is working well!

I have not done anything with mine except put them in a folder on my computer. I like your idea to display them, Hannah. I was thinking of putting mine on an apron but I bet it'll become a UFO LOL!

I am happy to report I have earned 2 badges!! The beginner and intermediate level of the relaxation badge.

I'm currently putting together my UFO's - WAY bigger project than it should be :(

Good job, Heather!! I also earned badges today. Mark me down for Know Your Roots beginner and Secret Life of Bees intermediate and expert please!

I would love to see/hear everybody's ways of displaying their badges or plans for doing so in the future. There are so many options, I like seeing what people come up with.

The Apron idea sounds awesome, Heather! I hope you get to do it one day!
