I cannot master the art of sourdough...even though I did the sourdough badge! I have tried every method out there and it never has a happy ending! My daughter turns out the most gorgeous loaves of sourdough bread that you will ever see! She loaned me her book and I am trying a new method. This time you have discard everyday, I've never done it this way before. I saw a recipe for sourdough crackers using discard that looked really yummy. You pour the batter onto a parchment lined pan and top with your favorite seasoning and bake. Well, that's what's supposed to happen....I could NOT get them off of the parchment and they were like rubber...ugh! Off to the garbage can it went...but they had a wonderful sour taste! haha!
I WILL get this mastered...it has become a personal challenge!!!

You're both wrong LOL! Nathan doesn't like sourdough either and neither of us eat seafood.

I love baking bread so I've tried sourdough a few times. I was following MJ's book and it wasn't working at all for me. I was grinding my own wheat and it turns out I was starving but drowning my starter. My flour was so fluffy that it weighed half what a cup of store bought flour weighed. So maybe try weighing your flour and see if that helps??? The only other thought I have is the temperature - do you keep your house on the cool side? My mother in law does and she has to set her starter on the floor by the heater vent to get it going. Anywhere else just doesn't work because their house is too cool. I've never been successful getting a starter started but I'm great at keeping them going and baking with them!

I like seafood but allergies prevent from eating it now. I didn't know you could develop allergies to something when you didn't have them to start with but apparently you can.

I love seafood and sourdough bread. I am allergic to many things but thankfully not those two things. Years ago and I mean many years ago I made sour bread, if I remember it wasn’t so bad, after many tries.
I love your never give up attitudes Wildflowers and I am happy to see us all there for each other and having fun!

Big Hugs,
Debbie

Heather, to answer your sourdough question, I did find that it's happiest on the counter next to the stove. The hot water heater is underneath the counter so it stays warm. So far, so good! I'm going to be ready to try it this coming week.
I also have 5 badges for you to add to our total! I got approved for the Int. and Expert Languages/Culture badge and all 3 levels of the International Civics Challenge. We are probably going to pass 200 by the end of the year!!! Yeah, Wildflowers!!

Debbie,
I have some I am working on also. They take longer and in between I am applying for the ones I can. There aren't many and most of those have been over time like the Recycling and the My Fair Farmgirl. I just haven't applied until now. I am still reading for the Lettter Writing badge and continuing to work on some handwork projects. They take me a long time because I can't sit for long periods of time. Have to take breaks and walk around often.
