Same here Marilyn but we lost power here in North Carolina. Fortunately we didn't have the damage other states did but there were widespread power outages. We lost power for about 7 hours. Today is absolutely beautiful. Bright sunny skies with 70 degree temps. So hard to believe it is mid-January. Linda keep having fun!

We had an ice storm last night ... what a mess ... such crazy weather as of late. I am fortunate that we did not lose power.

Fog, cloudy skies, more fog. I think someone took away the sun. Sure hope they return it soon.

I'm glad everyone is safe and warm. We are having overcast but in the 50s today. Hard to believe it's January.

No sunshine today. Rain. The almanac said our part of the country is in for a rainy winter. I guess they must have it right. It can get so depressing. We all need sunshine!

I hope Julie is staying toasty and warm. They have extreme temps there.

Another day in the low 80s down here! While that might sound perfect to you, it isn’t . We didn’t have hardly any winter last year and it was followed by a blistering and miserable Summer from May to November. Projections are for a similar pattern this year. UGH! I am not looking forward to endless heat and humidity again.

I am staying warm Denise, thanks for thinking of me. It was -18 this morning and a good breeze blowing so our windchill is -34. I had a lot of layers on to do chores this morning, everyone is cozy in the barns. We made sure to give them all extra deep straw and they have extra feed as well. I am spending the day in the kitchen, it is a good day to make a big pot of soup and a fresh loaf of bread. I also had 2 huge wash tubs of apples in the barn I brought in this morning and am going to start making applesauce and maybe a canner full of pie filling.

Winnie and Julie -- I feel for you both. Warm is nice but humid is not and I can't even imagine 18 below! I think I would just stay in bed and hibernate all winter.

We have been so warm...70s with sunshine! We also have had dense fog at night. Today when I went to the barn the alleys were so wet. The blower would not blow the hay and horse poo away...so I washed it away with the hose.
Of course we ate due to get colder again.

Our nice spell has vanished and was replaced with rain off and on, cold 44° some wind and lots of clouds. My neighbor said tomorrow we have a 90% chance of rain. Wow!

The elusive sunshine is out today and we have a wind chill of 19. Not looking forward to going out in it. You have to do what you have to do. So I am bundling up before heading out.

We are under a blizzard warning for this afternoon through tomorrow night. It has warned up to above zero, but the wind is blowing hard moving snow around already.I haven't left the yard all week but I should head out to the mailbox and clean it out today before our road blows shut.

Julie, take care!!!!!! BRrrrrrrrrr!! We are having a very warm and windy day as a cold front is making it's way down here. Supposedly, we will see night time temps in the upper 20s and daytime temps in the 50s the first part of the week. What a change from having the AC on some days this past week when we had daytime highs at 85!! All of my azalea bushes, camellia bushes are starting to bloom and our summer flowers are still going strong. I think we are going to lose a lot if those temps actually happen. Crazy weather!!

Julie, that was a first for me...hearing you say you needed to clean out the mailbox before your road blew shut. I had never thought of a road blowing shut...like a door.
I hope your power stays on and you stay nice and warm.
God bless you.

Our mailbox is a mile and a half away at the beginning of our dirt road, better known to most people as a drive way although most are much shorter than ours.
Some of my garden seeds came today, it brought a little joy to my day and I have them spread out on the table with my garden planner. Ruth gave me this planner in a swap years ago and it certainly made me think of her when I got it out.
We have 2 very large generators so I never worry about the power. Keith always keeps them serviced and ready to go this time of year. The wind is gusting up to 40 now and it has started to snow pretty good, definitely a soup and sandwich night. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Julie I read your post to my husband. He said that when he and our son went to South Dakota, just before Had was born, the Hunt family they visited also had a long drive to their mail box. In fact they only got mail twice each week. And the school bus did not come out there, so they home schooled their kids.

Julie, we get your weather here in Minnesota too. Just had the storm and are now shoveled out. The ice crust was in the middle of two waves of snow.

The sun is out thankfully, but the wind is blowing so hard. It whistles through the front door. It always has even though we put insulation all around. We are up on a hill and it comes across the fields, no trees for a windbreak.

Supposed to have sunshine all week. I am hoping we get decent temps.

Brrrr, the cold are FINALLY MOVED BACK IN!!!!!!!!!!! It will be sweater weather this week until Friday when it warms up again, gets humid and rain shower projections increase. Hopefully the next set of rain days will bring in another cold front. Everything down here is already blooming and the next two nights will be around 30 degrees in town. We could lose a lot of our flowering bushes and trees which would ruin our beautiful springtime here in February. Keeping fingers crosse that my Camelia bushes and azalea bushes won't get zapped!

Yesterday we also noted two Monarch butterflies still eating from our blooming Milk Weed plants. Did they never migrate? Will the next cold nights kill them? Crazy weather has everyone mixed up down here!!

Bonnie you are lucky that for the most part public works can clean up the snow after our storms in your area. Today starts our clean up, lots of snow blew in high drifts with those wind gusts that came over the prairie. I always envy the people who live in town after one of these storms, there lives get back to normal so quickly. But than I think of all the downsides of being there and quickly go back to the snowblower (which is on a tractor) and shovel. It was very cold yesterday and we had no where to be as church was canceled so we just did chores ad stayed in. Today starts our real dig out. The temps are to be much warmer for awhile (in the upper 20's) so we will enjoy getting outside.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.
