Well Linda here's an example on how I do it. I had beans left over from canning this morning so I am making bean soup with them. I opened a pint of hambone broth and 1/2 pint of celery to put in the soup along with one onion, carrot, and a couple of handfuls of dried collard greens.

I eat beans almost every day. One pint will feed me for two days so in a average week I will use 2-4 pints of beans.

I am now using only chicken, pork, beef, and spaghetti sauces I can. I buy few canned foods; tomato products and green beans.

Sara, we'll have a farmgirl supper!

I forgot to mention that on Saturday I went to my mum's and we did our annual Tortiere (meat pie) day! It is a Christmas tradition in my family! Mu mum's sister, Alice, came over and so did my sister. We had a family dinner of tortiere ... I should mention that it was also my mum's 81st birthday.

Has anyone been doing any cooking baking for the holidays? I haven't started yet but need to get moving on them. I usually make snickerdoodles, kiss cookies,no bakes and sugar cookies. What does everyone else like to make?

Sadly, I have done NO baking for the holiday, well except the fruit cake. Which, by the way, the quality of the brandy does make a difference. I have so NOT been in the Christmas mood! So unlike me, but with everything going on, and lots of changes coming my way, I just wasn't in the mood. Bah humbug!

I didn't do much in the baking dept. I managed Christmas crack and that's about it. I made too much of it for sure. We will probably be eating it till Valentines.

Marilyn have fun with your pressure cooker. I haven't cooked in mine - only canned. Mine is the only one I found that cooks and cans. One of the things I can is dried beans that are soaked overnight - drained - cover with non-chlorine water - cook for 30 minutes before putting in jars to can. The beans finish cooking doing the 75 minutes of heat & pressure. Best beans I have ever made so I think you would like to try dry beans in your new toy.

Yours is a six qt - perfect size for cooking. Mine is 10 qts. Perfect for canning but too big for me to cook most things in unless I only fill it half way.

Cooking black eyed peas, collard greens, and cabbage with tomatoes. I like it for New Year's Eve supper and New Year's Day dinner. I don't have champagne to toast in the New Year but I do have a small batch North Carolina corn whiskey a friend sent me that should do the trick. I'll be doing my toasting early. Annie and I will be in bed a long time before that ball drops in NYC.

Carole, my in-laws always grew pinto beans in the garden. They picked and canned the green beans, but at seasons end they allowed the beans to dry on the vine. We would gather, shell and can them in pint jars. Wow! They were so good in winter time. I enjoyed them more than a pot of pintos I cooked. Of course I have learned to cook way better in the years since then, but I think those beans may be similar to what you are talking about! Thanks.

It's 33 now but should be in the 50s today so my Yellow Rose Cottage is going to be busy.

Pressure Canning 4 pints of snow capped dried beans. It's a new variety for me.

Soup bones and a few beef short ribs in the slow cooker for beef broth to can tomorrow. Bones and short ribs were in the meat marked-down bin. May cook half the ribs with mushrooms for lunch today.

Pre-diced white onions I found in produce marked-down bin for 50cents in the dehydrator.

Yes my cottage will be humming today. I'm a happy FarmGirl to be back out there.

Sounds fun Sara. We will be going to pick up a Christmas gift from the family. A dishwasher. The other old is to pricey to fix so they got us another one. I don't really use it unless we have company. I like washing by hand so I can enjoy the view and birds at the feeder. We also have to replace a small part of the flooring as it got messed up when the dishwasher started leaking. So my kitchen will be busy.

Nice gift Denise. I too do my dishes my hand. I often remind myself what a woman who grew up during the depression told my sister. "I like doing the dishes because it means I had something to eat".

It's cold out in the cottage so I am layered up. When I put on my favorite canning apron Linda made me Annie started barking and jumping around. She knows that apron means I'm goin to the cottage and she's going outside with me. She's outside all the time but she still gets excited if I am going out too.

No holiday baking done by me. Just not in the mood this year, without my grandsons to help. I did make Chocolate Oatmeal NoBake cookies and added coconut.

Have made Connie's spare ribs in the crock pot twice now. They are DELICIOUS!

I wash some dishes by hand, but if they pile up and I have a lot, they go into the dishwasher. LOL!

As usual, there is always something delicious cookin' in the Farmgirl kitchens!! I happen to love fruitcake and I found the candied fruit mix on sale this week and purchased one container. My idea was to make the buttermilk recipe from MaryJane's cast iron cookbook and add some candied fruit . I decided to bake it in a small loaf pan and it turned out delicious!!!! The fruit gave it some extra texture, a bit of sweetness and pretty confetti colors. I did a happy dance this morning at breakfast. Easy Peasy!!
