This is not a salad but it is also good.
In a square Pyrex dish...spread a can of bean dip.
Unwrap an 8oz. Block of cream cheese, and put it in the center. Now pour a small jar of Jalopeno jelly over the block of cream cheese. As it comes to room temperature it is so good! You can eat it on tortilla chips or crackers, etc.
At a party, people will ask, " what is that? " but once they eat it They will come back for more.
The combination of sweet, spicy peppers, and cool cream cheese along with bean dip!!!yum!

Have you ever tried cucumbers sliced thin, sour cream and dill?
You actually slice the cukes, lay them on a paper towel and salt them. They will weep, then in about 20-30 minutes, you mix the dill ( fresh or dried) into the sour cream. Then add your wimpy cuke slices. Fold in gently and serve.
I have never been a fan of cucumbers...but this is good.

Yes, I love cucumbers that way. I haven't dried them first, though.

Linda the cukes are not dried but the salt removes most of the water from them. Then when you fold them into the sour cream and dill that does not become a wet mess.

We love 7 layer dip, but I make one half of it 6 layer. I don't like avocado but DH does so he gets a double dose of it.

Similar to Marilyns but different -- I put a block of cream cheese upright in a dish and pour a jar of salsa over it. My grandson Nick says he won't go to a family gathering without it.

When the daughter of a friend got married, they made individual Seven layer dips, in stemmed, plastic martini glasses. Clever idea!

Marilyn -- what a cute idea! My daughter had Fathers Day at her house. When you arrived you were given a drawstring bag containing a mask, a big plastic cup with your name on it, alcohol wipes, plastic silverware wrapped in two napkins, and a squirt gun filled with sanitizer, and another goodies specific to the individual (mine was candied ginger). They have a multilevel deck around 3 sides of the house so we were all outside most of the time. Everything was planned with the virus in mind. It is possible to have a safe gathering, it just takes a little extra work. The 7 layer dip in separate glasses is a wonderful idea for such a gathering.

Sounds like your daughter had things under control! I'll bet she has a lovely home. That deck sounds amazing!

These salads and recipe are fantastic! I have made the 7 layer bean dip before and we love "Creamy Cucumbers" and though I've seen people do that with salt I don't. I just lay on paper towels to get some of the liquid off.

I haven't heard of water pie but I have my Grandmother's recipe for vinegar pie.
Sometimes when my kids would ask what we were having I would tell them wind pie and air pudding.

LOL! And just what is in wind pie and air pudding. I know fluffy puddings have a lot of air. LOL!

I have a recipe floating around here for my grandmother's vinegar pie too. Never heard of wind pie either. I've also never heard of water pie.

Our pear trees are dropping pears and they are a bit too hard to just eat. Does anyone have some good recipes I can use? I love pears! Is there a way to ripen then easily on the counter?

You might try putting them in a brown paper bag with an apple.

Last night, I tried a new Fruit cobbler that came from my cookbook, Farmhouse Rules, by Nancy Fuller. I have seen her shows on Food Network and actually watched her make this recipe. Oh my, I have to say this is the best recipe for cobbler I have ever had! The two key differences are this: not too sweet, and a slightly sweet buttermilk biscuit topping. It is a flexible recipe because you can combine different fruits to make 5 1/2 cups. I used peaches, black plums, and blueberries. The fruit mixture adds the juice of half a lemon, plus it's zest and only 1/2 cup sugar and some cornstarch. The buttermilk topping is standard but for 1 1/2 cups flour, it adds 1/4 c sugar. We ate it without ice cream and I think it's goodness stands alone when served just slightly warm. I love finding a delicious new recipe, don't you?
