Here we are in July already! I can hardly believe how fast this year is going. I have been trying to squeeze in some papercrafting in between taking care of home and watching grandchildren. It won't be long and it will be time for them to head back to school days.

Happy July!! It’s the heart of the summer and the only month the kiddos in my area don’t go to school. :)

Yes, July is the heart of summer for most states. It gives us choices to visit other states and see things like National Parks, family and old friends. It was just the other day that the local elementary school listed the visit day in early August for incoming Kindergarten students. Just a good reminder that summer isn't endless, although it seems that way down here in Florida. Our neighborhood has a big block party that ends up being a huge bunch of fun for all ages. They have rented and put up this huge blow-up slide that has a water feature and a shallow pool at the bottom to catch up. This year's slide is taller than last years and it will take some courage of some to go down it once. There is also tables for potluck goodies and they always cook hot dogs if anyone wants one. We have a few old timers here that are good musicians and they get together and play all sorts of fun music. About 9pm, they do a fireworks that is truly impressive. This started happening about 5 years ago, and now it has become a tradition we all enjoy.

That sounds like so much fun! We used to have block parties in Hawaii during the hurricanes. The power would be out a long time so everyone startedgrilling up what they had in the freezer so it wouldn't be lost. Was a lot of fun and it made those storms seem not so bad.

Winnie, how fun is that! I think that’s what neighborhoods need more of. Great memories are being made!! :)

Denise, sounds fun…as long as you make it to your safe place before the hurricane hits! :)

Karen,
In Hawaii there wasn't anywhere to go except the places we lived and the way they were set up you were pretty much right outside your home. The one time my mom came to visit was when we had the first one in 23 years. That was our first block party and she loved it. It was hurricane Ewa, pronounced Eva,and they were selling t shirts everywhere that said "I survived hurricane Ewa. That was the first time I was ever in a hurricane. At that time we lived in military housing from WW2 and it was cement block so we felt quite safe. Our husbands were all out to sea but two who were there due to being on medical leave. Of course housing wasn't right near the ocean because the base was so large but we had lots of wind and rain when it went over the island. We were on Oahu. We were all in our 20s and 30s so everyone thought they were invincible back then. Lol.

In the schools in your area Karen, do they end in June and start in August?
The schools here end in May are start in August. They put out a calendar for the qhole year at the bwginning which is great to be able to plan around school breaks.

So true about being young and thinking we were invincible!! Schools here begin on Wednesday of the last week in August and go until mid-June. The schedule always has built in snow days but if they aren’t used it doesn’t effect the end of school. Those unused days are taken on Fridays in the spring. :)

I know they get snow days here too but they aren't put on the calendar because they don't usually need them. Most times they just have 2 hr. delays.

I remember growing up in upstate NY we always started the Wednesday after Labor Day. We ended the last Wednesday in June because graduation was always on that Friday. Usually around the 28th or so of the month. I always loved that schedule. We also had snow days or delays. We would listen for our school's name on the radio and would celebrate when it changed from a delay to a closure. Lol. Those
Were the days! I always loved the start of school. Everything was fresh and new.

We got up and went early to pick blueberries hoping to beat the crowd and the heat. By the time we were done the parking area was full. It was already half full when we arrived. Everyone had the same idea. Picked just around 8 lbs. Half are in the freezer. Saving some for eating today and the rest will get done later. It sure heated up fast out there. Met someone who shared a mutual friend in NJ. Their family knew the family of my friend who passed away in Oct. 2020. I think I shared about her here. She was my bff. Anyway it was nice to meet someone from there.

Blueberry picking is the best! There is nothing better that getting fruit that is ripe to enjoy. Plus there are so many ways to enjoy blueberries. Yes, one sure does have to get up early to pick fruit because it heats up quickly and makes it tough to enjoy the experience in the blistering heat. What a coincidence, Denise, that you met someone who also knew your best friend. Sometimes we are reminded how small the world can be at times.

The block party last night was really great. There were lots of people with their kids and that huge water slide was getting a workout! My hubby even braved it and went down. It was fun to watch kids and adults having some fun on this big blow up slide. There was also some beautiful fire works to end the event about 9:30ish.

Your block party sounds like such fun Winnie! So, how did your husband like the slide? I always think in my mind I could do those things but my body just says nope, not today!

I am going to try and go again for blueberries with my daughter and the kids if she will go. Have to get the freezer situated for when the peach truck comes on the 22nd.
Love having all this wonderful fruit in the freezer. I will take out what is oldest and dry or make jam with it to make space for this year's stuff.

We had a perfect day with the family. Hamburgers, hot dogs, gigantic banana splits. I'm so stuffed. We had a lot of fun with the great-grands and I found it so strange to hear my son called "grandpa". I think I must be getting old.

Today was my last radiation treatment and I am happy to be done!! The next 4 weeks will be letting the skin all heal up and to rest. The fatigue has been catching up with me here at the end. But I have lots of good books waiting to be read so I am ready to dig into those. We had a quiet July 4th as I was tired but all is good.

I am glad many of you had a festive and fun July 4th with family and friends!
