I have always it seems since I was a little girl been afraid of Bees. But the more I read about them I find out I should not be as they are our friends. I am interested in learning so much more.

I'm glad you're looking forward to reading it! I'm not exactly afraid of bees/wasps but I try to avoid them. I have a terrible reaction when I get stung. A couple summers ago I was shutting a gate and didn't know there was a wasp on it. When I put my hand around it it stung me on my palm. My hand swelled up so bad I couldn't touch my thumb and pinkie together for 3 days! Of course it was my right hand and I'm right handed so it was a difficult few days LOL!

Bees are so amazing!! :) This is very long but so worth the read. I found it on Facebook one day.

My dad has bees.Today I went to his house and he showed me all of the honey he had gotten from the hives. He took the lid off of a 5 gallon bucket full of honey and on top of the honey there were 3 little bees, struggling. They were covered in sticky honey and drowning. I asked him if we could help them and he said he was sure they wouldn't survive. Casualties of honey collection I suppose.
I asked him again if we could at least get them out and kill them quickly, after all he was the one who taught me to put a suffering animal (or bug) out of its misery. He finally conceded and scooped the bees out of the bucket. He put them in an empty Chobani yogurt container and put the plastic container outside.
Because he had disrupted the hive with the earlier honey collection, there were bees flying all over outside.
We put the 3 little bees in the container on a bench and left them to their fate. My dad called me out a little while later to show me what was happening. These three little bees were surrounded by all of their sisters (all of the bees are females) and they were cleaning the sticky nearly dead bees, helping them to get all of the honey off of their bodies. We came back a short time later and there was only one little bee left in the container. She was still being tended to by her sisters.
When it was time for me to leave we checked one last time and all three of the bees had been cleaned off enough to fly away and the container was empty.
Those three little bees lived because they were surrounded by family and friends who would not give up on them, family and friends who refused to let them drown in their own stickiness and resolved to help until the last little bee could be set free.
Bee Sisters. Bee Peers. Bee Teammates.
We could all learn a thing or two from these bees.
Bee kind always.~

That amazing Karen, l love it and such a wonderful lesson. Thank you for sharing.
Heather I got stung by a Wasp on my face when I was about 10 maybe and it hurt and swelled like the dickens so that’s why I had always been afraid of bees and wasps.

Big Hugs,
Debbie

Karen, I love your story! So cool!
We love our bees here! I've always been fascinated by them, every since I was a young girl. I'd save them all the time. Still do, especially when they end up in the pool. I've been stung many times but just keep moving on. They are truly amazing, so incredibly important! We tried to have bee boxes here but we are up against the enemy of farmers surrounding us so too many were lost. Heartbreaking. I just plant huge flower gardens every year for them now!! :) If anyone wants to borrow and bee books I have several that make for great reading! INCLUDING the one Mama Hen sent me a couple months back! That was very good my friend, thank you again!!

Great story Karen! I just love the miracle of bees. They are so tiny but have such an impact on our environment when they work together. Plus they create honey, that is so pure and yummy, and like water, can’t be duplicated or man-made.

I do love bees too. I just attended a continuing education lunch and learn last week and they recommended a book that y'all might be interested in - The Bees in your Backyard (A Guide to North American Bees) by Joseph Wilson and Olivia Messinger Carril. I was surprised to see how different bees look - so many I'm sure I mistake for wasps or flies. I would like to make some bee habitats for our native bees in our yard.

I do love honeybees for the magical way they work together and design their honeycombs - true works of art.

I love bees! The number 1 reason is because without them we wouldn't have fruit or flowers, food, honey or honeycomb. We are truly blest by bees. My eldest brother was a beekeeper and has sent me honey and honeycomb and a recipe booklet he wrote for using honey instead of sugar in so many dishes. Yum!
