Getting Corny for Thanksgiving

When you’re right, you’re right. And you, my dear friends, are right. We are losing Thanksgiving; I didn’t realize it until I got your comments and emails.
What can we do?
I say let’s pool our ideas and come up with a plan. A plan to save Thanksgiving.

What Happened to Halloween?

In honor of a certain upcoming "spooky" celebration…

Let’s talk Halloween.
You either love Halloween or you hate it. Which group are you in?

Leafing Through Autumn and Getting in Trouble

(WINNER OF THE CD IS LINDA!! Linda, email me!)

Oh my, I’m in for it now.

The leaves have it.

It was neck and neck with the Tasha Tudor photo. But the first photo, the one of all those autumn leaves spread out on my dining room table, won.

Won by one. One vote. Same thing we always hear. Your vote counts.

A very close third was the muddy feet picture.

But here’s why I’m in for it. When I read your comments and emails about how you can’t wait to see what crafty thing I did with all those beautiful leaves, I broke out in a sweat.

You Decide Give-Away

Now that I’m posting every other week, I find it harder to write a post. It’s because I have too much to say. Too many things have happened between postings. You know I'm never short on words. Just short on enough time to say it all.
So how do I decide what to tell you about?
Hmmm.....
Hey, I know! You decide. You tell me.

Mi Corazon, Tu Corazon

Take care of your “corazons.”
That’s “hearts” in Spanish. I learned that word, not in high school Spanish, but in the movie, The Beverly Hills Chihuahua. (In case you missed it...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNUn0HHq7iw)
Take care of the corazons not only inside your body, but also the ones walking around outside of your body.
Do you remember the quote about your heart and having a child? It is from Elizabeth Stone, “Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”

Love Your September

Let's tallk about how you love your September. What kinds of things do you usually do in this month? This awesome month when autumn officially greets us! Apple picking? County fairs? Put up fall decoratations in your house? Rake leaves? Bake pumpkin bread? Tailgate at football games?

So far I've spent mine down and out. Yes, it was the flu. I don't know when I have felt so rotten for so long. It was rough timing because I've got much left to do to finish the move. But guess what? It made me slow down.

Hubby brought home a pile of magazines for my flu entertainment. (I have to tell you: the daytime television thing got old very quickly. I see what so many of you mean now....150 channels and nothing to watch...hard to imagine.)

Anyway in one magazine, SELF, on page 38 was the most wonderful thing: MARYJANESFARM!!! Yay! It is so fabulous to see MaryJanesFarm getting the press it deserves!

The page is captioned "Love Your September."

I Sold Out

I did, I sold out.

But before we discuss that, I've got good news and bad news. Which do you want first?

Do you tend to pick the good or bad news first when someone asks you that? I usually ask for the good first...so, here goes.

The good news: internet was finally (finally!!) hooked up in our new house. It took a whole week to get it done, but, friends, it is FINALLY here. There are still some problems, but at least I can access the Internet.

Which means I'm not sitting in Starbucks at the moment, but am in my family room instead.

Incidentally, I meant to tell you that one day last week I had been working out in the yard and was not presentable in the least. Not by sight nor smell. I needed to get access to the Internet to take care of a couple of pressing things, but hated to walk into Starbucks being so entirely and completely not presentable.

Sleep Secrets

There are no words to describe how touched I am by your warm comments and emails. I'd like to tell you that we are doing great. That wouldn't be the truth. What we are is getting by. Hearing about how you all got through the death of a pet helped us enormously. How can I say thanks? You are all so wonderful. I'd like to share a pot of tea with everyone of you.

I can tell you this: staying at the old house was just the thing to do. We needed that extra time there. It didn't really matter that there wasn't any furniture. We had what we needed. Each other and a little more time.

True, our backs hurt from sleeping on the floor, but being there was important to the whole family. On top of Elvis suddenly dying, my daughter had to start school last Wednesday. A NEW school, with all NEW people. I think all she could tell them about herself was how much her heart hurt. I hope the other kids were kind to her.

So let me show you where I am at this very minute.

Hearts Break

I greeted the movers at the front door on MOVING DAY with a twitch in my eye and my nose as red as Rudolph's. Typical reponses to stress for me.

I always think I'm not stressed out and that I'm doing fine. And then the twitch comes and zit joins the twitch and then I realize otherwise.

Oh well. That's the way it goes.

The news is that our stuff is moved, but we aren't.

There's a reason for that. A sad reason.

To the twitchy eye and red nose I've added swollen eyes and nausea.

Wild Thing

There is one thing I like about moving. Finding stuff.

Stuff I haven't seen since the last time I moved. Stuff I haven't been looking for and haven't missed, but I sure am happy to see again.

Wild Thing is an example.

He was a Valentine's Day present several years back. I saw his pink stripes and his white mane at the bottom of a box as I was going through some things in the basement. I immediately pulled him out and pushed the button on his hand.

Yes! He still has it.
