You Decide Give-Away

Now that I’m posting every other week, I find it harder to write a post. It’s because I have too much to say. Too many things have happened between postings. You know I'm never short on words. Just short on enough time to say it all.
So how do I decide what to tell you about?
Hmmm.....
Hey, I know! You decide. You tell me.
I'll post some of my favorite photos from the last two weeks. You tell me your favorite photo and the photo with the most votes is the one I'll post a story about.
Just leave a comment or email me and let the know the number you vote on. And here's where the give-away comes in to play. If you voted on the winning photo, then your name will be placed in a hat for a special drawing.
For a surprise. From me.
And don't forget to check back later in the week to see which one I post the story about...
1.
Autumn Fun

2.

When it Rains....

3.
Fall Gardening

4.
 Head In the Clouds: Choices

5.

The Life and Times of Charlotte, Our Garden Spider

6.
Creating Butterfly Gardens
7.
Tarragon and Peace

8.
It's that Time!

9.

 Monarch...On the Way to Mexico

So what'll it be? Which story? What number? 1-9?

I've been itching to do an autumn give-away. So, I'll draw a name from the folks who voted for the winning picture. The winner gets a special autumn gift (which I haven't decided on either!)

To enter, just leave a comment or email me at rebekah(at)maryjanesfarm(dot)com.

And don't forget to check back to read the story and see who won the give-away! (And make sure to contact me for your surprise if you're the lucky winner.)

Can't wait to hear what you decide!

Until next time, Friends, savor the flavor of life!
Lots of love, The City Farmgirl, Rebekah

Hi Rebekah,

I like all the pics....but my favorite is the Autumn Fun (1). I'd like to know what you used the leaves for? I am making an embroidered panel quilt for my bed. My first pic, was started with the use of fall leaves, which I copied by hand onto cloth, then hand embroidered. I've been embroidering other panels since the beginning of the hot weather...and will put fabric squares between them. Someday I will give this quilt to my daughter, and she will pass it along to her daughter. I hope you will show us a pic of just what you made from the leaves...
(I'm also glad to hear you're feeling better). Being a mom I know what its like to have to take care of everyone else, and not have any strength or time to take care of me!

Tasha Tudor has a Halloween book? What? How did I miss this? How has my life not come to a complete stand-still in the month of October without this? Holy cow!

Oh ummm.... I guess that would be Picture 8.

Cool pumpkins. I have some from that line, too!

This is a tough choice. I love the story behind the muddy feet! But, visually, I love the picture of the spider.

Because I want to hear the story, I'm going to pick the muddy feet. (#2)

I vote for #1 also. Those are some mighty interesting leaves. We don't have the variety here that you have on your table. Maybe I should move back to Portland, OR where we had all sorts of trees. Please let us know what you are going to do with all those leaves.

The spider is my choice, because we have at least one or two of these every year. We love to watch them setting their webs, and if we are lucky, we see the hatching latter, when hundreds of baby spiders fly off. It is such a delight, and we look forward to our spiders every fall.

How about #1. It is still so hot here near Houston, TX that hearing about the fall leaves will make it more fallish here too! Not that I'm complaining...last year we were getting over the hurricane...so hot and happy in south Texas!

Hey Rebekah,
Well Fiddles! I am having a tuff time deciding,,, but I am going with pic #8,,,why you ask? lol! because as you said..."It's That Time!" and,,, I LOVE Tasha Tudor.
When I think of Autumn I think of her and that classic pic of her sitting by her fireplace, with her sweet shawl wrapped around her. I can just see(in my mind) her beloved Corgis by her feet.
SO, now I am inspired to get off this silly computer and go to my family room, get the fireplace going, make a cup of tea, pull out one of my favorite Beatrix Potter books and snuggle up and read....after all, it is Autumn and it's cold outside so what better thing to do then snuggle for an extra hour w/my beloved kitties at my feet.
Oh, & don't tell my hubby, he thinks I am hard at work cleaning the house & preping dinner! lol!
Autumn hugz to you & your family.

What a lot of great topics and so hard to choose from. You made them all look so inviting to know more about! I loved all the leaves spread out -- I used to iron them between sheets of waxed paper and then cut them out with my kids. I still have some after 10 years and they are well preserved! But, I guess I will choose #4 - Head in the Clouds/Choices. Sometimes the choices we make in life haunt us for years, or bring blessings for a lifetime! Can't wait to see what the winning one is!

I'm a huge fan of autumn, but #4 is calling me. What 'head in the cloud choices' have come your way? Does it have something to do with the fall? :)

By: Cindy
On: 10/13/2009 09:34:05
Oh jeez Rebecca, I think we need to find a way for you to get more time. To have to pick just one.....I love Tasha Tudor. Very eccentric woman, she was. I actually got to meet her when she was at the Cincinnati Flower Show. And the spider...Had one of those in my garden and had to research it. I just knew it had to be some poisonous spider because of the bright color of the spider. Not poisonous at all. I believe it is a Golden Orb Weaver and it weaves the most unusual web. And I love crafts and would love to hear about the leaves but, I'm missing warmer weather. Warm enough to put your feet in the mud, so I'm picking number 2.

I really like Autumn Fun {photo 1}; Autumn is one of two of my favorite times of the year. I love the fall colors. Where I live we don't get many reds and gold’s. But that's what I get for living in North Idaho. I do have to admit I love it with all four seasons.

On: 10/13/2009 09:40:51
my oh my which one #1 or #7? I love Tasha Tudor and visit her website a lot, but I think I will go with photo #1. It brings me back to the day I made a leaf collection for a school project. The thing I remember most was a discussion between the teacher and myself and the name of the of the leaves I used. It was a Red Crimson Maple! I did get an A on the project, but the teacher did agree with the Red Crimson Maple leaf. Oh well, I wonder if I still have the project in my box of childhood "memories"/stuff. Have a great fall day.

I'll have to go with #2, "When it Rains". We are heading into the rainy season here in Olympia, WA and I would love to hear what you have to say about when it rains! It will rain here for the next 6-8 months. It's been cold here too this October.

Hi Rebekah

This was a hard decision because ALL the photos piqued my curiosity! I think you have to go back to blogging more frequently so we can see the stories behind all of them!:-)

The trees are just beginning to turn into their autumnal colors here so I'd like to read about # 1

Thanks!

#2, When it rains. I just came inside after letting our dog Bailey out. We expected a UPS delivery today and the gate had to remain open. So, I put on my Lady Bug boots and trampled (and sunk) in the grass to make my dog happy. It has rained here for days now. We just don't see much of that in Oklahoma. A good dose of little girl joy would go a long way right now...

I'm sorry to be serious, but I'm into some heavy-duty choices right now, so I vote for #4. Sometimes it is helpful to see how someone else weighs alternatives and arrives confidently at her decision, so I'd appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

I enjoyed most of the photos. My favorite is #8 It's that Time. Tasha Tudor was so talented and creative and is missed so much. Autumn is my favorite ime of year. The crunching of the leaves as you walk over them and the beautiful colors of the season, pumpkins, leaves and all the decorations of Halloween and Thanksgiving.

I vote for #9 because I feel like I've migrated recently from my home and dear husband in G'ville, ID to my daughter's home in WA to care for her as she has been placed on bedrest while waiting for child number 2, and her dear hubby is in Iraq serving us. I'm tired of the travel, and I know it must be done in order to enable my daughter the safe delivery. I'm flitting about in some other place than my own. I'm happy to be doing it, and I'm missing my farmlife at home.

On: 10/13/2009 14:30:55
Wow! What a lot of interest you have generated with your photos. I have been reading your blogs for some time, but never have commented before even though I have enjoyed and gleaned much from them. One in particular was Elvis and the moving day. Such compassion and feeling for your daughter and the loss. Some folks just don't understand the connection between pet and person.
Anyway, I digress - back to the subject. I have to vote for #8. I have the same book on my trunk (coffee table). I have been a longtime Tasha Tudor fan. How interesting to read through the comments and see how many others love her too. Number 2 would be my second choice. But then the spider was also neat. You do have an eye for great picture material.
My best, Bonnie

It's got to be the muddy feet of No. 2!!!! It has rained SO MUCH here but only a child and a puppy can make it fun! So I'm going to be a child in the morning in my big rubber boots at the barn and just have fun (the ducks and goats already think I've lost my mind anyway!!! :)

2. When It Rains
It brought back a wonderful memory of my son Aaron and his two friends when they were around 4 years old. It had just rained and they went out back to play. Little did I know that when they went out, there was a mud wallow (very deep mud puddle) in which they played. They came back in covered from heads to toes with black mud. It was the funniest sight I'd seen in a while. It took two baths to get them clean. I wish I'd taken pictures to 'blackmail' them as adults. Thanks for a great flashback. Debby

It seems like once the weather turns cold, as it did early this year, one starts to think of the Holidays, keeping children busy and making things, so I vote for "Autumn Fun" and if you don't write about it because it didn't get the most votes - you really must at least tell us what fun you were up to with all the leaves.

My vote is for #8. I love holidays and Halloween is such fun for the kids old and young. I imagine it's a difficult task to select a topic every other week. You do a great job keep it up. Thanks so much, you inspire me.

I love all the photos but the "When it rains . . " sounds so inviting after a long, hot, and dry summer. Having lived in the Puget Sound then moving to North Central Idaho left us so "high and dry" that during the first real rain we ran outside and danced in it. Neighbors looked out their windows most likely thinking . . "they're nuts". We love rain and relish it. Rain . . . . do rain!

All the topics seem wonderful, and you should consider covering them all. My favorite today would be to vote for #1.

Gosh, I guess I will vote for #2 although I love all of your stories. #1 has got to be a great story as well...I'm curious about what you did with all of those leaves...tell us all of your stories..we'll be real patient while you spin all of your yarns!

My vote is for #8. Grace's comments above cinched the deal for me. I was leaning toward #7 because we can all use more peace in our lives but maybe you will do it another time? I love Tasha Tudor and pumpkins and all that goes with this time of year. And thank you so much for your blog. I always look forward to reading your perspective on things.

I think #2 looks like it has a fun story to go with it, so I vote for #2! I love the smell of rain and wet leaves in the fall, and I love your blog! Thank you!

I vote for Tasha Tudor #8. I have several of her books and wish that I had the Pumpkin Moonshine book. I fell in love with her drawings and her special way of life. I was sorry to hear she had passed away - 90 something - not too bad.
I had a hard time passing up the monarch butterfly. They are amazing.

I think #4. Often as I walk my head is in the clouds, either with the burdens of the day or the blessings of it, but no matter the reason, my spirit rejoices in the moment. We all tend to forget the peace that we need to let into our lives, and clouds seem the perfect reminder! Love you and your thoughts.

Wait, I have to *choose*? Just *ONE*??? But..but...but I want to hear about all of them!

Out of all of them, the ones I most want to hear about are:
#1 - the Fall leaves, because like many of the other posters, I'm dying to know what you were doing with them so I can hijack your ideas :-)
#8 - because I not only love Tasha Tudor, I also love Halloween - it's been my favorite holiday for as long as I can remember.
#2 - Because I was a little girl who liked to play in the mud once, and now I have a little boy who likes to play in the mud. (I also have a little boy who hates squishy things and won't get anywhere near mud, but there you go.)
#5 - Because spiders are just awesome. I know a lot of people think they're creepy, but I love them. Basically, anything that eats a lot of bugs is OK in my book! Plus, that's just such a lovely picture.
#3- Fall Gardening - the picture isn't terribly exciting, but I'm always interested to hear about gardening. I have visions of having a garden and growing all sorts of lovely produce and herbs and maybe even some flowers. Haven't managed to do it yet, but I just got the new Square Foot Gardening book, and my husband promised to make me some beds. He's convinced that I won't be able to do anything with them until Spring, so there's no rush, but I disagree - lots of people do Fall gardening. I can too.
#9 - the Monarch - not only is that a beautiful picture, but I'd love to hear the story behind it. Did you just happen upon the Monarch sunbathing one day? Did you participate in a butterfly release? Inquiring Moms want to know!
#7 - the Tarragon and..is that a statue of a Saint or a Goddess? Whatever it is, it's a gorgeous picture.
#6 - the Butterfly Gardens - I am assuming the flower in the picture is actually growing out of the ground, not sideways? In any case, it deals with gardening. And butterflies!
#4 - Another beautiful photo. And given that the subject is "Choices", it seems so appropriate to this discussion - after all, you've passed this choice on to us.

And that's all of them, isn't it? Hmmmm....
I guess if I had to pick just *one* it would either be the fall leaves or the halloween one. But that's not just one, is it? Grrrr...I am terrible at making decisions! (It drives my husband up the wall on a regular basis.) Maybe you could write about several of them? Like the winner and the runner up?

I am dying to know about those leaves, but I love Halloween more, so I guess my first choice is #8 - It's That Time Again!

And my second choice (do we get second choices?) is #1.

my vote is Charlotte. We have these creatures in our garden and their webs are truly amazing. Spiders are not given the respect they deserve. All the pictures have a story so I'll be happy if you write about all of them...esp the summer ones once we are in the throes of winter.

I still want to hear about the muddy feet picture. The way the dog is looking at the mud and feet is so funny. How about doing that one next?
