Does anyone out there do machine embroidery? I'm trying to decide if I want to invest in an upgrade to my digitizing software, which is pretty bottom-of-the-line.

I'm looking for recommendations and personal experience.

I have the Amazing box, but I didn't know there was a way to convert graphics files into embroidery files... Is this a new feature with the Ultimate Box?

I have the Babylock Esante Ese Sewing/Embroidery combo machine....an older model also. Has 3 different sized hoops to use. I love it! It's easy to use and quick to convert back to regular sewing...just unplug the embroidery module and you are sewing again!

I use the Ultimate Box to download designs from the internet or save designs that come on a CD or Floppy I have digitizing software but haven't got around to that (yet)..LOL

So many gadgets....need several more lifetimes to explore all of them.

Thanks, LynnMarie I mean Sissy. lol

I'd appreciate the information. Do you use Windows or Mac?

Hi LynnMarie! (that name still causes me to double-take :) ) We use Claris Draw to "layer" it on the computer then transfer the whole design to the magic box (Ultimate Box)since it plugs directly into the computer, it's super easy once you do it a couple times. It allows you to kind of take the drawing/painting apart in layers so that the embroidery is on top of each other for detailing and not around it, it looks real like the picture *~* I think I may still have the disk for Claris Draw if you don't have it. It's not a fancy program, but GREAT for this! I do know a friend who uses a more updated Draw program for layering I'll find out what that is for you. I've heard tell the EQ Embroidery function will layer as well but haven't tried it on mine yet. I'll try and see if I can write it out in a step by step and email you after the weekend. It really is easy and SOOO fun. Let me know if that's what you're looking for :) Have a fun long weekend *~*
Sissy (LynnMarie too) :)

I have the Esante and love it. It's an older model but I can use the embroidery cards directly in it or make my own or download from the computer and transfer them with the magic box. My mom is an artist so the magic box has been GREAT for transferring her designs to the embroidery machine. I also love to download the free ones from the internet and buy some from embroidery.com so I think for me the magic box is a must have. The one problem I have with the Esante model is that it "heats" up inside after doing maybe an hour or so and though there is nothing wrong with the machine, it starts hiccupping (sp?) after that and has to cool for a while. Other than that I love this model though. But like I said it is an older model :)
Have fun with a new machine, they are so addictive! *~*

I have a Janome, I started with a Brother PE150 and upgraded to the Janome. After I posted this I found an email from Amazing Designs (I have the Amazing Box, too, for my Brother- I have an early one and I'm not sure if I can still get cards for it) that was promoting their digitizing software - I have Click'N'Stitch (low end software) but I can't do what I want with it. I found that they have 30 day trial downloads of fully functional edit-n-stitch and digitize-n-stitch - I've been playing with them some and so far, I'm thinking it will take me far longer than 30 days to learn to use all the features.

The really neat thing is that I was able to convert all the free designs I'd previously downloaded for my Brother (.pes format) to Janome format (.jef files) So that is worth the time and effort already!

I'm trying to start with graphic files (.bmp or .jpg) and convert them to embroidery designs. If I ever get anything presentable I will post it here!

I have a Bernina Deco 650. I like it but it is limiting. I can get designs off the net but I'd rather have a new machine that uses a stick instead of a CD. I have the Magic Box to transfer the designs. I was looking at new machines but decided I better buy a house and see if I can afford a new machine later. So... in the meantime...I'll be reading what everyone has to say and I'll be taking notes. lol

I do enjoy making gifts with the designs. For Christmas, I embroidered my farm-neighbor lady a red barn scene on a towel set to go with her red barn photos my son took last summer. I also printed that photo on transfer paper and ironed it on a tote bag I sewed. So she had a big bag of barn stuff. It was pay back time, she helped me pull all the old 1970's carpeting out of my house.

Oops! I got off the subject...sorry.

I have a Husqvarna, Viking Designer I. I love, love, love it!! Can you tell I love it?! It was easy to learn, and it is also a regular sewing machine. I use it for everything. I have not updated it or anything and feel that I can use it as is for many years and never run out of designs, etc. I could use it to digitize, but have not done so yet. One of these days I will because I would like to make my mom some stuff with pics of her dog, etc on them.

Many used machines are available that have little or no use on them. You can get one for a fraction of its original, new cost, and there is nothing wrong with it. Just make sure the warranty follows you as the new owner.

I have a Janome 9700 sewing/ embroidery machine and love it
I started out with a basic computer elna, and loved it I still have it
I saved and saved and finally brought my new manchine
It was really easy to use after taking a couple of lessons which are usally free when you purchase it from a dealer.
I had no problems
I always thought I couldn't work one of these; but they are really easy and fun to do
Look around and do some comparing work before you buy.
see if you can "test drive" them.
Most sewing places will let you do that.
However ; don't be pressured by the sales person
Kinda get the idea of what you want on your machine and or embrodiery machine
I could have purchased just a embrodiry machine
But, I wanted a new machine so that is what I went for.
Don't be too hasty ;make sure you really love it before paying alot.
Hugs. pinkroses

I have a Bernina Deco 340. And I have the top software, I'm not sure what the exact name is but its from Bernina. I can digitze, design my own from scratch, design cross stitch, design applique, and design quilts. You can choose the quilt block and the exact fabric. It gives you all of the measurements and directions. I love it. My next purchase will be the Bernina My Label, you can design your own clothes to your exact measurement and print off patterns. I'm so excited, I love to design clothes. Of course, this is my first embroidery machine. Good luck!
