Has anyone used the Glutten Free Budget Mix? If you have, what have you made? Thank you for reading.

Thanks for giving the GF Budget Mix a shot! The budget mix should rise without any extra baking powder (it's already added), you might want to try using buttermilk as a liquid to give it a little extra "oompf." I spoke to Ashley (our official food guru) and she thinks there's a recipe kicking around somewhere for GF scones. Today she's busy baking bread for our upcoming book "Bread the MaryJane Way" so she'll have a chance to look for it later. If you have more questions, let me know!

Just got the bulk size gluten free baking mix from Mary Jane. I tried scones with it but could not find a scone recipe from her using the gluten free mix, so I tried using her regular flour scone recipe. It did not work. So I added an egg, some cream, and it got to the right consistency, baked nicely with a bit of crunch on the outside, but it was soft in the middle, did not rise and get fluffy like a regular scone. So I'm wondering if I tried to add baking powder, or even yeast if that would work. Has anyone tried this? They tasted really good and would be perfect if I could get them to rise. Maybe it's just a matter of finding the right recipe. My DH is Brittish and he is very fussy about his scones.

Hi Marilyn,

You should be able to swap it out for Bisquick. Obviously, we don't have their formulation, but the Budget Mix is certainly an organic answer to Buiquick.

I have what may be a silly question, but it's for those of you more experienced than I am with MaryJane's regular Budget Mix -- can you use it instead of Bisq****? That is what I am thinking, but I didn't want to assume incorrectly.

All four of my grandchildren are gluten free, which means their parents are too, and I have learned a lot about it over the last two years. Thank goodness for those like MaryJane who are providing folks with really good gluten free products. What a godsend!!!

Just wanted to let you know that I've been playing around with a cracker recipe using MaryJane's Gluten-free Budget Mix. I came up with a really good, seriously simple recipe for a buttery cracker. Look for it on on Friday, May 15th!

I was also wondering if the GF budget mix recipes can be made dairy free too. I had to go through a lot of GF mixes before I found one that tasted good without dairy (butter especially) added. Does anyone else know?

I miss plain ol' Saltines. Just a simple soda cracker. I love all the seed ones that are GF, but soemtimes, you just want a plain ol' saltine with PB. :)

I have used it for my gf muffins. I now am diabetic so I can't eat a lot of rice anymore. I mainly use millet, amaranth, buckwheat and quinoa.

I have used it and it is excellent. Better than anything in the stores. Both dh and I are gluten free. I wish Mary Jane would come up with a good gluten free cracker recipe. We miss crackers. Oh, I made the bakeover with it. Her recipe.
