Has anyone made their own quilt batting from their wool? I had seen at a farm show where they sewed batts together to make it large enough for a lap quilt. I was looking on the internet but didn't come up with much. I know you can get batts made, but I was thinking of just doing it myself???? Good idea, Bad Idea??? Would you have to use a light cotton to encase the wool in and then tie it to hold the batts in place? Thanks for your help.

The largest batts we can make are 24 inches wide. I would love if we could at least make lap quilt size. I would try it, if it is just for your use. I think you would be able to tell if it is going to work when you start layering them. I would think you would have to use a cover of some kind.I did wonder if needle felting them a little would help ?? Let me know who's it goes!

Thanks Sandra, I was hoping to use my wool batts off of my drum carder. I was thinking of pulling apart the layers, making them thinner. Then criss cross them for a twin size quilt. Maybe putting them in a "bag" of muslin I could them tie it all, then use for the quilt?? I would then tie the quilt. Do you think that would work? The quilt would mostly be just sitting on the bed, no one would be using it everyday. I would try like to try it out one night, and see if I like the wool for batting. just looked at your website. I saw the crib batting you had, and that is what I was thinking of doing. Your picture of the wet area is great!

You do not have to put them in muslin, we just choose to sell them that way. I made a quilt and used a wool batt.

Thanks Sandra. I was wondering if you would have to have in muslin or not. I know I have heard that they take old quilts and take the wool out and clean and fluff it up and put it back in the quilt. I am going to try doing this for a twin size quilt. Can't hurt to try!
thanks again for responding.

We have them made at a Mill right now. We cover them in muslin and tie them to keep the batt in place. We have some wool processing equipment but cannot make the large batts.
