We just found out that we have at least one bat in our house. We're pretty sure they are coming down from the chimney. Has anyone had any dealings with these creepy little things? And how you got rid of them??

Oh yes do be careful! My step-brother used to work for the telephone company as a splicer (back in the day before cell phones). He got histoplasmosis from working in manholes and other locations where bird droppings were. He didn't know he had it until it had spread to his spine. He is now held together with rods and pins. He barely recovered from the infections and lung issues. He was hospitalized for weeks and we really didn't think he was going to live. He thought he just had asthma which he had his entire life. My thoughts are if there is one bat there may be some others. I hope I am wrong! Annie

We had bats, the little mexican brown bats, in our attic a few years ago and 2 came through the fireplace into our living room. Scared the bajeebers out of me because I thought my cats had messed with them and my daughter was younger so I feared for her as well. I hired a professional guy to come investigate and come to find out we had a colony upstairs with a pile of guano to the top of the ceiling. We had to have hazmat come in for removal and cleanup. WHAT A TIME that was!!! It can actually cause Histoplasmosis if it sits there too long and begins to mold! PLEASE be careful!!

Thank you, girls! We are pretty certain we found out where the little critter was coming in from and it doesn't look like he has a family living with him anywhere...thank goodness! I think we will be able to seal up the hole from the roof with bird netting to keep them out in the future.

Debbie,
I have had bats in my house before. We did call someone to take down one side of our home, get bats out and seal up where they were entering. Good luck with yours.

Debbie,
I sure hope you find a way to get rid of them from your house.

Debbie I would err on the side of caution and call a professional to remove the bat. Bats may carry rabies. Hope you get it out without much trouble.
