Anyone know why my watermelon did this on the inside? This is my first year growing them, so it's all new to me.

They may be possible. We had a super hot and dry summer and with our watering restrictions it was hard to keep up. I’ll have to try again next year.

You didn't do anything wrong Krista. Weather conditions play a huge part in it. Sounds like it never got enough moisture. We got too much bursting open over half of ours this year. Plus lots of disease from heat and humidity

I did taste it and it was a bit on the dry side. It tasted ok but not sweet like a watermelon should taste. These watermelons were supposed to grow to 7 pounds but stopped growing about a month ago. So when I brought this one inside it was only 2 and half pounds. I have 2 more like it still on the vine. I don’t know what I did wrong.

It looks mushy/dry and am guessing it sat to long and got over ripe...
Maybe Nicole aka Texdane knows,, she is a Master Gardener.

WHat a bummer,,

It looks overripe to me Krista. Sometimes you get one in the store like that.

My guess would be not enough water OR overripe. Is it mealy? The first time I did watermelons, I picked a couple too early, and then some too late. Yuck. LOL.

Hmmm, I wonder if the voids are from too much water or not enough? We grow watermelons every year Krista and right now I'm losing a lot of them due to too much rain, they are busting open left and right! Bad year for our garden. I will ask my gardening friends. Did you taste it? Is it sweet? Moist or on the dry side??
