SCRAP HAPPY
Well, I’ve been reflecting on the year just ended and several things run through my mind – the pandemic is uppermost of course and all the challenges it brought to our daily lives . . . oh my goodness. Then my thoughts flitted to this chatroom and the joy it has brought me throughout this difficult year. The fun swaps that kept my creative juices flowing and especially being named Farmgirl of the Month for November. And then getting the courage to venture out with much encouragement and help from Winnie and Julie to actually host a swap myself – The Feed Sack Project . . . And then Winnie got named FGOTM for January 2021 – couldn’t happen to a better Farmgirl. She wrote a lovely acceptance post about “Making Do”. And all of a sudden. things started to come together for another swap as we start this hopefully happier new year.

In researching for the Feed Sack Project, I kept coming across this mantra from the Depression Era: “Use it up. Wear it out. Make it do. Do without.” – and the “Scrap Happy Swap” was born. We all have a scrap basket that we often threaten to just throw out and start fresh. But we don't and there it sits. So, I challenge each of you to be SCRAP HAPPY! Dig into that basket and make something adorable for your partner. What you ask? Well, how about a pot holder, a set of scrappy quilt blocks, use your scraps to decoupage a can or jar to hold stuff, book marks, a tiny doll and dress, a mini-quilt, coasters, a pieced journal cover, a fabric postcard, little fabric folded flowers, use the scraps as collage pieces in a paper art project, make something from scrappy yo-yo’s (Katmom can tutor you on how to make them) . . . need I go on? You get the idea.

OK, so here’s the deal. Please don’t sign up if you can’t follow through. I want each of the swapper partners to be SCRAP HAPPY too.
1. Sign up by January 16
2. Partners posted January 17
3. Make do . . . . No, I mean make IT – see above for some ideas
4. Mail by February 20
5. Tucks optional . . . Not purchased – “make do” from your crafty stash

Let's all be SCRAP HAPPY in 2021.

Geometry is fascinating in quilting too. While I was teaching art the kids (third graders) , were reading about code quilts. So we made paper quilts.Every child made a block...then we assembled them on a background color of large bulletin board paper. Borders were added. They turned out so good. The teachers all loved them, and were pleased to display them. Then the kids and I played making more. We used lots of triangles, and squares.

Try making granny squares with the colors on the diagonal and putting them together with color stripes going diagonally. It is a wonderful exercise in geometry.

What a lovely story Marilyn. I have made several scrappy granny square Afghans, the latest one on my hook is one with white borders. They are such a great way to use up bits and pieces from other projects.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

I have two black granny square afghans that Great granny made for me. She had one in a trunk made with wool yarn. I admired it, so using the acrylic yarn that was available she crocheted one for me. Later I received an ad in the mail showing a beautiful off white afghan with flowers on each square. When I asked if she could make the flowers, of course she could.
That beauty became my bed spread until my hubby burned a big hole in it one morning with his cigarette. She was so put out with her grandson! She gave him a piece of her mind! Then she made the afghan as good as new. Later on she made another just like it for me. Then she made another black granny square for us. So now each grand daughter will have one of each!
When Had was about to go into surgery for that 10 hour brain surgery, he promised God he would stop smoking...if God would let her be normal again. He stopped and our tiny granddaughter is now a beautiful young normal sized woman.

Thank You Marie for the scrap happy package and the extras.

It certainly does personify scrappy. It was definitely a lot of work.

So sorry many of you are going through tough times with ice and snow storms, power outages are not fun. Then add the covid issue in there too. Ugh!! Hope all of you can get back to normal soon.

Marilyn, thank you for the compliment on the flowers. My son is getting married October 2nd, my daughter October 30th. They all have everything almost wrapped up. Venues booked, cakes ordered, dresses decided on, table decorations almost finished. Attendants decided on, flower girls and ring bearers taken care off, menus decided on. I`m working on flowers for my daughter and have my dresses purchased and in the closet for both weddings. They both want small, simple and easy. Yay!!

Congratulations on your Great Grandchild!! So special

Omgee! Mary, that's crazy! You are a real trooper trying to care for your husband while going through all this! I've learned so much from this Texas crisis and you ladies. We ordered a solar generator from Patriots to accommodate any emergency alongside our gas generator. Stocking up, motor hoarding, essentials and meds. I just don't see things getting better right now so it doesn't hurt to prepare. Thanks to MaryJanes, we ordered lots of prep food!! :) My heart and prayers going put to Texas and the town here in Alabama that got wiped out by a tornado.
