This cracks me up. There is now a dating site for farmers. I saw it in an article on Yahoo.

http://potw.news.yahoo.com/s/potw/18303/cupid-for-country-folk

It's really not a bad idea, though. Wish I would have thought of it.

Ok, so I am obviously NOT single, but I had to look (no, I didn't search for anyone). Too cool! They started a campaign like this in Wales, only lonely farm folks are putting their own faces on milk cartons there.

Hi Alee, yes indeed I was refering to the comments on the Farmers Only site, not any of our responses. Farmgirls and Farmers are unique people. It takes stamina to run a farm in addition to very hard work. It takes stamina just to keep up with the little bit I do on top of a job and public service jobs (unpaid of course!), but I love my home and my little bit of land and never feel burdened by it. I highly admire Farmers and I am sending off for a bumper sticker to put next to my MaryJanes bumper sticker, that says NO FARMS NO FOOD. It is that simple and thank God for MaryJane and this "movement" to take us back to what is really important in life.

The Farmgirls are lovely women of every size and shape and age and we all share the same desires and have respect for each other. I certainly did not mean any of our responses were rude.

Rose-

You are referencing the comments on the Yahoo site, right?

Hi, I did not take offense on the "Cracks Me Up" phrase, and it is OK if people do find it funny. Every person who thinks for themselves may not agree with anyone else.

I found some of the responses other people made on the site downright rude and very narrow minded.

I want to thank you for bringing this site to my attention and I appreciate everyones responses. There was a time in my life when I would not have even entertained the idea of "internet dating" but I know have grown up now and do not judge people on where they meet. We live in different times now.

Again, thanks for bringing this subject to our attention.

I hear Alaska has something like a 10:1 ratio of men to women? Wow!

I was lucky enough to go to school with my farmer. I gave him up for a bull rider though. We stayed friends for a few years, then I came to my senses. After his almost fiance dumped him, because of the military, I snatched him up again! Whew, I almost missed out!

If I was single I would check out the site. Also a friend of mine went to work at a fishing lodge in Alaska for the summer and caught herself a good man. Just a thought. ;)

Oh how insenitive of me. I need to clarify.....By saying cracks me up, I mean it tickles me. I think that that the computer and the internet have become such a powerful tool in all aspects of our lives, including finding someone to love you. After all, isn't that what farmgirls is all about. I know there are many out there searching for someone and I truly hope that I did not offend someone by my comment. I t was not my heart intention, for sure.

Humbly yours,

Sherone

Rose, I agree...it's hard enough to meet people in a city setting, especially someone that you have something in common with. I really think that when you're ready, you should utilize this site. It couldn't hurt! A gal that used to work in our office met her husband on line--the only glitch, he farmed in England, so lucky girl, moved there! Now they have a son, and live her full time and go back to the UK several times a year. He couldn't find anyone in England and she couldn't find anyone here!

I checked out this site, and read all the responses. Some people were outright hostile but I personally feel that it covers a niche in the dating game that has not been covered before.

I don't think it is funny I think it is smart. Who has the time or a good place to meet someone like minded. I have been divorced now for 16 years and I have not even dated since we have no suitable men in our town (they are already married, involved or just not someone I want to "take care" of) and I am so very busy raising my son who is now 17 and just taking care of my home and little tiny bit of land.

However, now that my son will be graduating this year I might consider dating again and just might use this site even though I have never considered using an internet dating site before.

You know I think I read about this site in an issue of Countryside and Small Stock Journal...It's excellent!! Since I bet Eharmony.com doesn't have a preference for city boy/gal or country boy/gal....LOL

I thought this was a great idea. I immediately told my mom about it, because she's been a widow for over 13 years now and even though noone can replace my dad, she longs for a simple kind of life, with a person who has strong faith and values. I thought it would be right up her alley!

When I was in Alaska, I picked up this magazine (can't remember the title) but it was essentially available bachelors profiles, along with a nice photo. Don't know what the ratio is now, but at that time, there was 1 woman to 10 men there--hard to meet a gal, that way, I'd think. My father had died just two years prior, so mom wasn't really ready and she thought it was crazy, but was somewhat intrigued. She flipped through and said, "now there's a nice looking man--oh, he likes to hunt elk", or whatever.

I think it's a fabulous idea! There's someone for everyone!!!!

I met my farmboy at a dance. He was spinning the records. He walked over to me and said, "Such a beautiful flower should not be anywhere close to the wall." He took my hand and danced himself into my heart.

How did you meet your farmboy?

this topic got me to thinking about 'farm boys' .. i'm reading a book about janice holt giles life .. she married a 'farm boy' from my part of kentucky .. back in the early 1940's. times were tough then .. and she was more a 'city girl' than a 'farm girl' .. and she found the ways of 'the people of the ridge' very difficult to live with .. actually, she uses this 'theme' in some of her incredibly wonderful books.

think i'll start a new 'thread' on this. (i love to ponder). xo

any 'single' farmgirls here? would be fun if you made the Hobby Farm Home show and found 'true love'.

I just read in Hobby Farm Home that there is going to be a reality dating show for farmers looking for wives. They are auditioning the men now, so eventually they will be looking for the future "wives!" Check it out girls!

I always joke that I'm going to the farmers market to find me a farmer, but I never thought of looking online! Now there's a good idea.
Thanks for the link. It was fun to watch the ad.
