hi I picked up this small old camel back trunk in hopes that one day I would line the inside with beautiful fabric and have my daugthers baby keepsakes in there? Ive never done it although I'm a quick study on everything. except putting my ???? in the right column on this forum! okay I hope this is the right one. so okay moving on..... the inside of the trunk is very rough and uneven.... so what type of filler or glue do i use? i would prefer something non toxic and what i have is several patterns of ivory textured apolstryy fabrics. any and all ideas welcomed!!!!

I have an antique '20s trunk that my Hubby is restoring for me. He's actually lining the inside with wallpaper.
If anyone is interested I can get the scoop of what kind of paper he's using and how he's applying.

there is another method you could try where you dip the fabric in question into liquid starch and just smooth it onto where you want it to go. it applies like wall paper and when you get sick of it you can just pull it off like wallpaper.

you can be oh so smart, or you can be oh so positive. I wasted a lot of time being smart I prefer being positive.

G'morning Barb...is the upper inside edge of the trunk wooden? I re-lined a couple trunks by sewing the fabric into a "box" cut to the dimensions of the inside of the trunk. I then folded over the upper unfinished edges of the box and tacked them with fancy upholstery tacks to the inside upper rim. Worked great!
You could even glue some quilt batting or similar thing to the inside of the trunk to make it more smooth before tacking your fabric box inside.
