The creek banks at the farm are becoming overgrown with grass and I need to weed eat. The weed eater that my dad had is way too much for me to handle.

Any recommendations for a "female" friendly weed eater?

I have a DR Trimmer which is like a weed eater on wheels. It works real good down by my pond and anywhere else. There is a self propelled model I some times wish I would have gotten. I just couldn't use a hand held model. I did buy an electric lawn mower which works like a charm. MB

Donna, you and I sound so similar...I use a lot of my daddy's things to keep me closer to him. He's been gone for 15 years now, and I still use his shoe shine box that he made, and his shoebrushes (that he carved his name in on the backside) and his wood chisels. Use the scythe, it will make you feel good :)

Yup, an electric one is what I ended up buying. mine has a chargeable battery so I an only use it for so long, but that is ok cause by then I'm ready for a break. It's pretty lightweight and I switch hands often. Got it at Home depot too.

LOL, Samantha. I found some goats grazing around the barn lot last weekend when I got to the farm. Seems the Uncle who is helping us out didn't want to have to mow so he rounded up some goats. We'll see how they do faring against the weed growth that has occurred. Unfortunately the area of the creek where I need weed help is not fenced in and there is no way I'm goin' to chase after any goats! That is picture no one would want to see.

Jonni, I love your ideal about the scythe. My dad had one in the tractor shed. I'll have to round it up this weekend and get it sharpened. I'm enjoying using the tools that my dad had. It helps to keep him close to me. Plus many of the antique tools that are at the farm had belonged to my grandparents and have just passed down to the second generation now.

...a goat?????

We have a pond on the back of our property, so we are getting a couple to pen up around the backside...it is amazing how grown up it is! We couldn't get a weedeater to work for us...so Mr. Pap (old man up the road) said get some goats! We'll see how that goes....

We have a Home Depot brand of weed eater and we bought a metal blade attachment that works really well on the nasty spotted knapweed around here. I have no trouble starting or using it. It's a gas one, though.

you'll laugh, Donna, but we use a combination--both Jus and I are small, so I bought a lightweight weed eater at Tractor Supply, but we also use a scythe. Ours is antique, but we had the blade sharpened at the lawnmower shop and BOY HOWDY does that thing do the trick, and it's very comfortable.

I have a really lightweight on that is electric. You have to have an extension cord but eliminating the gas tank etc cuts down the weight.
