My passion flower vines are loaded with maypops this year, a first for me, I"ve seen recipes for jelly and want to try it, has anyone made jelly from maypops? Any other ideas on how to use them? Thanks!

Amie, if you need me to resend you some seeds don't be shy in asking, I still have some more to share. Do a search on passion flower and you should find a pic of both. Have fun with it!

Thanks, Junebug! I got my passionflower seeds in the mail yesterday. They were a little crushed in shipping but I'm going to try them anyway. They look a lot like watermelon seeds, so I'm even more curious now about what the plant and the fruits will look like.

If you still have seeds, I'd love to get some. I'm in Zone 6, but I've heard that passion flower doesn't overwinter north of Pennsylvania. Do you think it would be an annual plant for me, or a perennial?
Julia Posted - Mar 20 2006 : 8:07:33 PM
Maybe I could make a tonic for them and put them in a deep sleep, a very deep sleep. I just can't get them to go away! They ate my Columbines last night. They make me mad! With all the woods we have around here, you'd think they would stay away from my yard, but nooooooo!

Junebug, did you receive my email with my address for the seeds? If not, check your junk mail -- sometimes I get filtered out because I have a hotmail address. Or let me know here and I'll resend. Thanks! K. Lorden

Not sure if deer like them or not, mine are close to the house so deer don't get that close, funny though since passion flowers have a seditive effect, might be a way to save plants if deer did eat them! LOL

I plan to get mine started soon. I have the perfect trellis for them to climb. Do deer like them?

Hi Eileen, you can go ahead and harvest the seeds, the best way to do that since they will be in a pulp, is to put the whole insides in a jar of water and shake real good, this will hopefully seperate the seeds from the pulp, then dry the seeds on a paper towel before storing away. If they don't grow you know it was too early, but I've had mine drop green and the bunnies have been eating them like crazy causing them to spread all over and some have sprouted already, so I'm thinking they will be easy to reproduce. Hope this helps, all we can do is experiment. Good luck!

Sue, I brought home one of the fruits a month or so ago from my cousins plant. It has been sitting on my counter and is now bright orange. Will it have seeds inside i can grow or did I need to wait for it to turn orange on the plant?
