I have recently found out that Fels Naptha is made from petro-chemicals. I have also found Zote Soap as a great alternative. It can be used the same way without the nasty chemicals. Fels Naptha has toxic properties long term.

You can put Zote in your browser and check it out.

i have a recipe in my book for laundry soap. its a cold process. you add borax baking soda etc. like you all do. then you add lye and process to trace. when cured you grate it. it works great. you can add more borax etc. after you grate your bar. those that make soap already this works. just a thought. sherrye

I've also heard you can use just ivory. I made a batch a few months ago with fels, as I was unaware of the petroleum-I'm wondering if ivory would be better, if you can't find zote? I'd like to buy a castile soap off etsy, but, it's so expensive vs. buying dial, zote, or fels.

Starbucks and sushi to green fried tomatoes and corn pudding-I wouldn't change it for the world.

This is disappointing about Fels Naptha after all the talk about it. I know my great grandmother had used it. It is getting harder to find things without petroleum in it.

I tried Zote for liquid laundry soap once but it just didn't melt. Don't know what I did wrong, if anything, but it works great in dry laundry soap.

keep searchin'-it's out there somewhere.

Zote vs. Fels Naptha? Anyone have any comments? I need to make more laundry soap and am contemplating using Zote instead of Fels. Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

I get Zote at Big Lots too. I uses Fels Naptha in my liquid laundry detergent - has anyone melted Zote for liquid detergent?

I use Zote in my homemade laundry detergent. It smells softer and melts better than Fels Naptha.

I've also read that it's good for catfish bait. I'll keep you all posted on that one - my girls & I are going to test it out in a few weeks.

I made my own laundry soap to use instead of Fels or Zote- but I have heard good things about Zote as well.
