What types of things do you like to do with your girlfriends?

I grew up in a Mennonite Community where we quilted with kids crawling around your legs. That was a day out! Or you did a canning bee.It always centered around work.

I no longer live there and find my friendships are more personal. We go for all day walks in the woods. Have picnic in a park ( just women). These are free events but are really bonding.

What do you do?

Marlyn

I enjoyed reading these ideas from past posts...it's a new year's resolution of mine and I appreciate your thoughts! We all get so wrapped up in the "must do's" on our list, it's hard to squeeze in time for just visiting and catching up. I'm determined to make it happen!

My best friend and I enjoy taking walks or bike rides and just talking and spending time together away from the hustle and bustle of life and school. We usually find a pier, sit by the bayou, or find a cozy spot under some shade trees. During this time we might read a good book, watch the sunset, talk about horses, make some jokes, or contemplate the meaning of life. We might not always have time to see each other but we are always there for each other when we need it. She isn't my best friend, she is my true friend.

True friendship is a rare feeling, but when it is found
It has profound impact on our well-being, strength, and character.

Our group"Stitch and [bleep]" meets on Thurs. usually at my house, we have a dedicated room to store our stuff and play in and a sign posted GURLS ONLY. we have field trips now and then, like to a craft store or into Amish Country, walks in the woods looking for Possibilities whatever we feel like at the moment. Sometimes we titch, sometimes not, but we always have fun

My girlfriend gatherings usually involve horses. Throughout the winter we have a standing date of 2pm at the Ranch to ride if it's not raining. Each summer the Cast Iron Butt Club takes a week-long pack trip into a wilderness. This August we packed in the Eagle Cap Wilderness in eastern Oregon. What a wonderful time to enjoy each other, the beauty of nature and the strenghth and power of our horses.

I am going on a 4 day trip with some friends from Church. we are going to Gatlinburg and we do that every other year. All the ladies from our Church go on the off yr. I have a great friend and we go to flea markets, garage sales, junking, movies and on Saturday we are going to the Creation Museum. I am blessed to have wonderful friends.

I like to invite my girlfriends over for tea or a light lunch when the weather gets cooler. We just chat and share our needs for prayer, laugh, offer advice, encourage each other. Nothing super fancy, just time well spent enjoying each others company. NO WORK!

I have a group of girlfriends that I went to High School with. We are all 60 now.
Some of us have stayed in touch all that time and some of us have just recently reconnected. We are all so different but having shared those formative teen years gives a common ground. Some of us were very good friends in school and some just acquaintances but we now find these to be some of our most important relationships. We are all so willing to support each other and lift each other up.
We get together for dinner and are trying to arrange a weekend at a cottage next summer. Most of us live in Michigan and 2 live in Colorado now.
We talk almost daily on facebook and most of the gals actually helpe me organize and run a charity auction for my granddaughter a few years ago.
They are the best

I find that we have the best times when we ARE doing something work centred...like a bunch of us will get together and organize one of our kitchens or art studios, or have a sewing night, or paint a friend's "baby" room, that sort of thing.
It always ends up turning into a party, as of COURSE we bring snacks, music, and talk about when we were kids...

We craft, have cocktails. About twice a year we have a naked lady party and exchange all the clothes we don't want (not actually naked-it's just called that). So, twice a year I get a whole new wardrobe. LOL!

I love project night with my girlfriends. We all meet at one of our homes, bring whatever project we are working on (and a couple bottles of prosser's finest) and work and gab. Not that we are solving the worlds problems mind you, but we are having a blast. There is no friends like girlfriends.

Circumstances made us FRIENDS; MaryJanesFarm made us SISTERS :)

I got to spend the day with a girlfriend yesterday....we sewed up a storm! I packed up my machine and some projects and went to her house (she has an awesome sewing room). We chatted and laughed all day! She started a new quilt and I finished up some wedding gifts. That's the best way to spend a day for me!

I often wish for more time for girlfriends and more girlfriends to have time with! Life is crazy busy and I don't even have little kids anymore!!!

Do what you love, love what you do.

It's kinda funny but when the "girls" go out we usually meet at a local restaurant-

Our poor waitress...we gab and laugh for a very long time. It's better than therapy and cheaper too!

All my close girlfriends are horse people. We do day trips to parks that allow horseback riding, or load up the horses and go to the beach for the day. Recently we took a long weekend and went to the Happy Horse Hotel and road the McKinny Roughs for 4 days. If we want something quick and free we ride our horses on the abandoned golf course behind the stable where most of us keep our horses. When we aren't riding we volunteer at the rodeos or local horse events.

It is hard finding the time to foster friendships when there are little ones running around! My girlfriends and I will enjoy a breakfast or lunch out when the kiddies are back in school. We sit for hours just chatting and catching up.

Many of my girlfriends have a passion for reading. We like to get together with a cup of tea and of course a little sweet something. And talk about what we are reading and sharing and swapping books. It's a good time of catching up with what is going on in our families. And always lots of hugs. I come away with a happy heart and ready to take on whatever is set for me. Girlfriends are one of the special gifts God has given us. That is why I love MJF so much. You always have a farm girlfriend there to learn from, laugh and cry with. And Marlyn isn't being out in nature so reviving! I can remember when I was little my mom and her best friend and of course me, would go out in the woods for long walks in the fall. We alway would find some bittersweet and bring it home. Its nice when you still have a few good memories. Well pray that this is a good day for all and maybe contact with a girlfriend!!
Hugs, Brenda
