No I don't mean that annoying neighbor. I have several of these from family, different sizes. They can be used for so many things. Glad I have them. If you have any of these what do you use them for?

I have a 20 year old crock that looks brand new. I purchased it to make German Pickles from a elderly woman that was her mother's recipe. When I was choosing my crock the sales clerk told me to buy one that was big enough to put my foot in it. That way I could make wine in the crock also. I never tried that recipe. I have used it for making pickles, puting other flower pots in it, and now it is in the pantry holding my large bag of cat food. After reading the comments above I think I will get it out and use it for beautiful purposes.

How do you get basil to grow big, especially in a pot? I've tried several times and just get a scraggly little plant.

Thanks,

Kathy

I have a very nice crock collection.

The reason we bought our first crock was to make sauerkraut.

I made five gallons of sauerkraut from cabbages we grew in our garden. And I canned all of it!

I'll have to blog my collection one of these days!

Besides kraut :) I use them for trash cans, to store my rolling pins, I have scarfs in one, cooking utensils, ect. I use them like I do canning jars .... for whatever fits :)

I've got two that have spouts (?) near the bottom (not working). I use one as a planter on the porch and the other to hold small bags of beans, sugar, etc. in the pantry. I've also got a really huge one that I don't have a use for. It would make a great umbrella stand...except that I don't use umbrellas and it would block my front door from opening. With a lid, it would make a great container for dog food...except that I have just one small cat. Oh, well. My in-laws used to use it as an outdoor planter, but that caused it to crack. So for now I'm protecting it from the elements in my closet and maybe someday a perfect use will turn up.

cracked pots (not crack-pots ;-) i use for flowers and storage, good ones are saved for sourdoughs, homemade yougurt, and soaking grains.

My crock is still waiting to have something done with it. It's an heirloom, so I'm not sure if planting flowers in it would be acceptable.

Hi Nancy -

I have a huge one - 20 gallon maybe? It sits beside my spinning wheel with all my roving rolled up in it. I also have a little one that I put the ends, etc. from spinning in it until I find a better use for them. Plus, I have one more in my kitchen with utensils in it. I love them even if they are chipped and cracked just to decorate with!

Hugs,
Luanne
