So yesterday I tried making the recipe for Apple Pie Filling that's in the Lifebook. Everything was going great...but we had a ton of apple slices left over (the book said 18 pounds of apples...) and I filled the jars to 1/2 inch head space... but this morning when I checked the seal on my jars, most had overflowed. Wondering if I packed everything in too tight or if I should of done an inch of head space instead. Thoughts?

I have wanted to make apple pie filling and have a recipe that calls for clear jel. I can't find the clear jel anywhere here. I have everything sitting in my kitchen and am going to try to find a different recipe. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I think it depends on your altitude among other factors. It's too bad that they over flowed!!

I wish I could help. I think I didn't pack mine tight enough, and the amount reduced down in the jars after mine were sealed. But it was sure good.
