Our farm dates back to the early 1900's, and we've been growing tobacco every year until this year (We still grow seed tobacco, but that's a small amount). Since we don't need to hang tobacco anymore, I've got TONS of tobacco sticks sitting in the barn. Do any of you ladies make anything with them?

Marlee: That sounds cute. I'd love to see a picture of that craft item.

Here in Maryland, we will often see them in craft/antique stores sold as walking sticks. I bought one for my dad last Christmas. I think I paid $20 for it. I'm pretty sure it had a sealer on it, with a drilled hole in one end and a piece of rawhide through it.

Grew up on a tobacco farm in Indiana. Miss those times!

Thanks for the info, Teri. I keep looking for some.

A couple years after we moved to KY. the tobacco sticks were being sold buy the bundles ... I bought several bundles of them cheap!
I have made a fence, barn stars, I use them to stake my tomatoes. I have sen ladders, table, chairs ... just about anything and everything.

Megan, did you find uses for your sticks? Hubby and I are looking for some. Do you know anyone who may be willing to part with any inexpensively?

We live NE of Bowling Green.

I made a star for Christmas that we put at the top of the gable on our house, wrapped with lights. When it isn't wrapped with lights, it's sitting on the porch just as "art". I'm sure there are more ingenious things to do with them, but that's what I did :)

I. went to a breakfast one time and it was beautiful. They used them, painted them white and drilled a hole ( hold under water)in saucer and cup
to make bird feeders. As I was saying drill a hole put a screw and a waher and bolt and then use a sealant underneath so it won't leak. It screws in to the stick, and stick in the ground. You fill with water or feed. Beautiful. Marlee
