works great! I used cornstarch and left it unscented. Fit into a small canning jar. Love the scent of the coconut oil. Easy to apply and I stay dry and odor free all day. I dip into the jar with a cotton swab and then nab a small glob with my fingers and then apply.

I have the recipe! Homemade Deodorant:
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch
4 Tbsp. unrefined coconut oil
10 drops essential oil of your choice (optional) (I used tea tree oil)

Mix together the soda and arrowroot/cornstarch. Add coconut oil and essential oils gradually and mix. You can soften coconut oil by heating it if necessary for workability. Store in closed container at room temperature. To apply, scoop a bit and hold in against your skin to soften, then rub in. It has a shelf life of a year or more.

I still have some from last year...still works! love it.

I've been using my own homemade deodorant for years and would never switch back to store-bought. It's mostly coconut oil with baking soda and some alum. (I prefer alum to corn starch because corn starch can "feed" the bacteria that cause odor. I used to put a few drops of an essential oil into mine, but sometimes, like right after shaving, it can sting. After I apply it, I rub it into my fingernails. Makes a great moisturizer and the baking soda acts as a mild exfoliator to keep cuticles smooth.

I don't get the magazine anymore, but have made homemade deodorant with coconut oil. Some of my kids even use it.

This post is old, but that recipe DOES work, and I have been doing it since June. The other plus for me is that I have eczema and many things will break me out. However, this doesn't! And you are 100% 'smell-free' all day! I am SO glad they published this, because I was having a serious issue finding something that actually worked :)

I have made this for a few years now. I add enough coconut oil to get it to stay together, then pack into a deodorant container. It works pretty good. Sometimes it crumbles a bit, but not bad.
