I love "repurposing" things, finding another use for something. Two of my favorites that I have repurposed are a crystal biscuit jar into a toothbrush holder (left the lid off), and an old but elegant glass decanter as a mouthwash holder. Recently, I reused an old teak and plexiglass breadbox into a "mini hothouse" for baby seedlings. What ideas have you come up with to reuse and repurpose?

Thanks Krista!
I know he is glad it is done. I mostly picked colors and handed him a hammer and paint roller. I only painted the dresser and light fixture plaque. Now come the fun part putting up the wall decoration. I will post pics when I get the medicine cabinet hutch painted. Hubby took an old night stand and built a tier with shelves and doors. He is simply amazing.

Thanks Ladies!

Lisa thanks for the Beyond paint suggestion. I am a little concerned about the front edge getting worn down with use from the sink. Time will tell how durable it will be and if I will need to touch it up.

Nice job Nancy! I love chalk paint. I have also discovered a product called Beyond Paint that is similar, but you don't have to apply wax.
I used it on a step in our bath going into the tub and it has been quite durable.
Good luck with your Mermaid Bath! So many options for enhancement!

Here is a close up of the light fixture. I wanted it to resemble dift wood.

Hopefully this is a better forum for my mermaid bathroom update. Hubby painted the walls in sleeping beauty with an eggshell sheen. The trim is off whites as is the base board. Hubby found this dresser at the Goodwill. It was stained brown. I painted it with white chalk paint twice. I then waxed with clear wax. Each layer takes about 24hrs to dry and cure. I then used grudge grey wax for accent. It is not a perfect job but we are pleased with it. Hubby put the marble laminate and brick tiles and the tile trim.

I had a lot of fun with the chalk painting and waxing. I found out if I put too much wax I could wipe it off before it cured and fix it to what I want. I am not done in this room yet. I still have art work to get up but you can see some of the mermaid decor I have. I also have a small hutch to paint and wax. It will be the medicine cabinet and guest towel storage. So nice to have two baths again. Another note... we also created the backplate for the light fixture.

Sharing another repurposed gift idea: My husband repurposed a porch pillar/column thingy into a coat rack for me over 20 years ago, he added support feet and hangers - I still love it today! Perhaps someone may like this idea and have a column thingy sitting around they can re-purpose!

Repurposing idea: I still love to use my previous years Christmas cards to cut little gift tags out and use on my current years gifts. I always think they look so special and the different sized tags poking up from the bows always adds a pretty dimension for under the Christmas tree.

A gift idea I love: My cousin received my grandmothers recipe box of her hand written recipes when she passed years ago, two years ago my sister was able to "borrow" them, took pictures and created a recipe book through shutterfly with all my grandmothers recipes, baking quotes and photos of my grandparents through out the years. One of my favorite gifts ever. So sweet and sentimental.

Another gift idea I love for the kiddos: A time capsule. My boys were each gifted a metal time capsule tin when they were born which I have built on and added to over the years for them. Because I loved this idea and am personally so sentimental, I have also created "handmade" time capsules for my nephews and two god daughters... you can use a box, wrap it up pretty, personalize it with a cut slot in it so you can insert time capsule items/keepsakes into... or find a keepsake box of any kind, wood, cardboard with a lid and hinge or not, and then insert special items into that time capsule to gift. You can also add to it over the years. Each year on my nephews birthdays, I send them a birthday gift and then a time capsule gift which mom inserts into their time capsule. She will determine when they get to open their time capsule. Items I have included over the years are: Time magazine from the year they were born, uncirculated coins from the year they were born, copies of any family military dog tags (you can get copies made on line very inexpensively) Letters from family, friends, godparents, a bible, the coordinates of a grandparent and where their ashes were spread, a $2 bill and the history of it, DVD copy of family movies taken, Special family photos with a memory, anything that represents them and their family history. Family can also add to this over the years if they'd like. I hope someone finds this idea inspiring and/or useful if they need a sentimental gift idea.

Hi Grace,

Oh I repurposed it to be useful. We have a pool in the yard and need the umbrella for shade. It is now a great umbrella to sit under after swimming. Will post a pic later.

Hmmm, Nicole, thinking about your old beach umbrella... you could wrap lace and satin trimings around it... or place it in your garden, and attach bits-n-pieces of fabric (6" sq) to freely float and flutter in the breeze... if nothing else,, it will be entertaining to your wild birds... lol!

Grace, Oh MY! You are right...lol! Gidget makes everythng even cuter!

I repurposed my old, broken beach umbrella instead of throwing it away. I use it in the yard now. I will have to post a pic and show how I didi it. I love repurposing things that would otherwise be thrown out.
