I am always fasinated by the view of where we all live. So, I thought why not start a topic about that.

Show us pictures of what you see out your windows. Front yard, back yard, side yard!

Post as the seasons come and go so we can see the changes with you.

Enjoy!

Here is my first set of summer photos here in my Florida garden.

Our view is similar to the one I posted last year, snow covered for now. But the wildlife is amazing this year. A rare sighting of Cedar Waxwings on our front yard tree. They should be wintering in the southern part of the U.S. And mama moose remembered she wasn't able to reach the top of the cherry tree until the heavy snow laden and frozen branches would droop just enough for her return to feed. Enjoy! Annie

This is the view from our front porch, where we spend a lot of time drinking coffee and as one of my husbands old sayings go, watching the grass grow and the car rust. It was taken just a few days ago, so you can tell our weather is nice. Hugs Karla

Thanks Marsha, you can't tell the weeds from the grass in the picture. We did have a good bit of rain yesterday.

That is a beautiful porch you have Lenora. And you grass is so green. Our lawns are all brown here in Florida since we have not been getting much rain. More like more wild fires than anything else this winter and now spring.

That is a pretty shot Julie. What perfect timing for a picture.

My DH is longing for a place in the country. He is working on a house now on 20 acres and he just loves the peace and quiet.

I just don't want to move away from my daughter just yet. If we move I want to be more North in the state so we can get a break from this constant Florida heat.

I love all the beautiful pictures and stories of country living. Thank you all from someone who lives in the city and longs for the open space. The most I have are squirrels, birds, hummingbirds, butterflies and bees, which I love feeding and interacting with. My neighbors all love it too, as I hear from them when I am outside tending to my garden.

Oh Annie, you are not crazy for talking to animals .... I do the same. Our crows are so entertaining! I always have conversations with wild animals. I have a feeder and a water hole for the wild birds. I know that when I fill the feeder, they are thanking me! I love to stand by the feeder; they'll fly right by me. I love the sound of their wings.

You have a beautiful place. Love the moose. I don't think we have any moose in my neighbourhood. We do have deer. Early winter they ate our Brussels sprouts, I bet they were good! Since it had been such a mild autumn we had left the brussels sprouts out in the garden to sweeten. Early December coming home from the airport, I was pulling in the drive way and noticed that the stalks were empty. I thought it odd that my DH had eaten all the brussels sprouts. Nope, it was the deer. I caught them red handed one evening! lol They still come by to nibble at the stalks! I should take a picture ... it does look funny! We have a raised bed and they actually hopped unto the garden. On a positive note, they left us some fertilizer! lol

Annie, how exciting to have moose in your yard. We have them in Minnesota too but they are farther north. I talk to birds and animals too.

Carol, yes I do believe the crow was letting my husband know just where I landed. He was out in the back and knew I was snow shoeing around. We have a few crows that nest around the neighboring acreage and because of the large rock out back they often circle in early morning, lunchtime and evening looking for food. I am often out back during the other seasons and the crows always check me out. They fly overhead to observe and I always have waved at them as they fly above our acreage. I know they see me. Sometimes if I go out back one in particular will fly and follow me. It may be the "guard" but they are capable of recognition of people according to studies. They are very intelligent which is why I never ignored their presence. I think all intelligent creatures understand disconfirmation and ignoring these birds would be a form of that. We also have an owl that comes around every late fall. He perches and watches me walk about. I have been able to stand under the branch it is on and talk to this owl. Sounds crazy to many people I would talk to the wild but I just do. I feel strong connections to the living things on the wondrous planet Earth we are born into. And yes, my husband was able to quickly locate me in the snow because of the loud "warning caws". We have had 10 more inches of snow since I last posted. Even the mama and baby moose have taken to laying down near my garden gate under a tree where the snow is not as deep and a patch of willow is nearby. And they seem to enjoy eating this particular pine tree. They rest and chew for hours there. Take care now sisters! Annie

Wow! Annie so glad you had help on hand. Here in sunny Florida the grass is still green. The flowers are still blooming cause we got left out this year for any real winter-time days. No freezing nights yet. That can still happen this month or March. I'll keep you posted. I think the lowest we've reach at night was 39 degrees for one night so far.

Annie, beautiful view. I enjoyed reading about your "winters". Hum, it must be why in the way northeastern NY (I can see Canada from my house) we have had very little snow for the past couple of winters. We are way overdue for a good snow fall! Can you share some of your snow?! lol Glad you were able to get rescued! A whistle is a good idea! Perhaps the crow was attempting to get help for you!

Debbie, Cool picture of the tree on fire! lol

Here's a view of my backyard in Days Creek,Oregon. The boat and water tank have been moved and the tree isn't on fire. It's the reflection of my kitchen light.lol. And my fairy garden is where the stone hedge is. I need to work in it.

Hi Sisters, I live in Northern Idaho and we have had more snow this season because we are in a La Nina pattern and there is less sun flare activity which equates to more snow for us. The next few winters are predicted to get heavier and heavier snow patterns. The Winter of 2019-2020 is predicted to get over 200 inches. Last year between snows it would melt. Not this winter. I am beginning to get cabin fever and have taken to organizing drawers and closets, coloring, reading, and studying German and one day even was dancing to music with my kitty. I knew then what true cabin fever is and its effects. This is our first big winter since we moved here Dec. 2013. It did get to minus 19 one night and we have had lots of sub zero. Finally we are warming up and the snow is beginning to melt. We do love it here but I will be glad when I can walk about my acreage again. I tried last week but my snow shoes got caught and I was buried in four feet of snow. You should have seen me unable to move with snow poles buried. My hubby rescued me but it was a challenge even for him to get me standing again. I will now take to wearing a whistle around my neck walking anywhere and in every season. Even a huge crow was cawing at me from a nearby pine tree. I told it, "I'm not pickins' yet!" My kitty is miserable and I actually had to take her to the vet to make sure she wasn't sick. She has the winter blues, so now we have taken to music and dancing. I'm trying to stay in the healthy range in cooking and eating activities all winter long! Self talk like, "You are not hungry, you are bored. Drink a glass of water." Yes, I have had a Vitamin D test and am correcting that result too. This is our view out the back door and our 3 acres goes to the big rock. We have fun watching Mama and Baby Moose too. Best to you!

Love this idea ladies! Here's the view out of our dining room/kitchen window. As i have said in other posts, we definitely live in the woods! I like to think of it as our own "Little House in the 'Small' Woods" :-)

The structure is hard to see because of the beautiful morning sun. It is our old chicken coop that i have converted to my garden shed.

You can also see my new heated bird bath in the foreground (the orange circle sitting in the the cement bird bath). That has been the best investment this winter! We have had more birds that ever - especially flocks of blue birds; just beautiful!

I love living in the woods for the most part - the privacy and shade suit me fine. I do get frustrated when i cannot grow sun loving veggies though. Instead, i am learning all about the wonderful shade and partial shade foods i CAN grow (always more helpful to focus on the can and not the can't :-) ).

I also love the woods because of the hiking trails my sons have made for me! I love to hike but rarely get out to do so these days. With trails in my backyard, i can hike anytime i like. I feel so blessed to have this option - just perfect for refreshing me after a trying day :-).

Blessings,

Dena
