I want to get back to my crocheting in 2018. I also want to use up my stash!! So I thought maybe some of you would want to do the same. Or maybe you want to learn to crochet or learn new techniques. Please join us!!

Join in anytime. The "rules" of the challenge are very loose. I will put some links to the projects I'm working on; if you need some ideas and inspiration feel free to join me in one or more of these (I will post free patterns) or choose your own.

I am purposely choosing simple patterns that use one skein or less of yarn. This is so that I can finish them up in the month and use up much of my yarn stash where I only have one or part of a skein. I encourage you to choose a one skein project to do during the month if not one of mine but feel free to show us bigger projects you are working on as well.

Each month I will post a new thread with a new set of inspiration projects. Like I said feel free to choose one or more of those or choose something else you would like to work on. Post what you will be working on at the beginning of the month, perhaps someone else would like to join you! Then post pictures along the way and of the finished project.

Feel free to follow me on Ravelry here: https://www.ravelry.com/people/sobyn
And I created a folder to store all of my MJF challenge projects here: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/sobyn?set=mjf-2018-crochet-challenge&view=thumbnail

January Inspiration and Ideas:

1 Skein: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cable-ear-warmer-2
Granny Square: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/traditional-granny-square-3
Thread Crochet: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mount-silex-snowflake
Fun challenge: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/box-of-chocolates-3
Temperature Scarf My daughter is going to make a temperature scarf throughout the year. She will be using an H hook and single crochets but no pattern.

If you have ideas you would like to share for inspiration projects one month (one or multiple projects) send me a message and let me know.

I did finish my project for January, I did one skein wonder. A little granny square blanket,
Am looking for my February project even though I can not crochet yet. I took a fall Thursday and had to go to the ER. Messed up my whole arm from the shoulder down to my fingers.
Am so happy I did not break anything, just sprains but I am in a sling. Going to my doctor this morning to have it rechecked,
Will let you know what project I chose and when I am healed.

Hugs,
Deb

I tried the ear warmer a couple of times but had a hard time with some of the directions so I didn't end up doing it...which is a bummer because it is really cute! I had planned on getting a row finished on my tablecloth but ended up working on the little Star Wars people. I have 3 more finished. My personal goal for February is to finish up the ones they want and then move on to the tablecloth...besides whatever threads are posted for the month.

I didn’t ever get around to the ear warmer or snowflakes so I may roll those to next month! I’ll put up the new thread in the next few days.

Did everyone finish their projects for January?

Oops there's a next page. Sounds like they are easier than I think. Maybe I'll make one for next months challenge.

Those Star Wars characters are adorable! I received a Wizard of Oz kit for Christmas and I'm super excited to try and make them. I haven't made anything like them before so I'm a bit nervous to try.

Deb, you could do it!! Amigurimi is so easy and quick! It is my favorite thing to crochet, mostly because I can finish quick and it doesn’t require having a bunch of yarn out so it works well with the kids. No pressure of course but it is easy!

Debbie those are all so cute! I need to do BB8 and Po for Daniel for sure they are his favorite!! None of the patterns I had have the newer characters so yay!!

Well I’m headed out of town Thursday so not sure I’ll get any of the rest done this month, the Feb thread might not go up until next Monday if I don’t find time to do it by Wed of this week.

Debbie, the doll blanket turned out cute! I've seen that yarn before and always wondered what it would look like done up...I really like it!
Sabrina, seeing your granny square makes me want to start a new granny square project and I'm trying so hard to finish up my UFO's....but I love them! The granny square JUST might win!

Here are the other 3 that I've finished...Poe, Chewbacca and Boba Fett. The little boys told me that I could just change Boba's colors and make Jango Fett! Hooray! haha I think between the 3 boys they were hoping for about 4 a piece. I agree, they don't take much yarn and really don't take that long. I wish I would've used a little more golden brown on Chewy, but it'll work.
Sabrina, I would be happy to send you my patterns! There are 24 different characters between the 2 books. I'll put them in the same package as the Chocolate book for you.

Marie, I will do that. I was thinking of making a couple for my new granddaughter.
Here is the picture of the first 2 Star Wars characters.

I have a few amigurumi character books. They are not difficult to make and, because they are small, use up small bits of yarn quickly. Debbie, I know you can make one. Look for them on the Lion Brand Yarn website. There are many free amigurumi patterns there that are sooooo cute.

Oh everyone’s finished projects are so cute, the slippers and swifter cover I really like.
Sabina of course I do not mind if all the young kiddos share the blanket, I think it is sweet. I am happy all if you like the blanket.
The Stars War Dolls are so cute, I have never attempted anything but scarves, Afghans and slippers so I think the dolls are too much for me.
This was a fun challenge, thank you.

Oh Deb!! Thank you so much for the blanket! It was immediately snatched up and used for their dolls. At the moment my son has it covering his Waldorf doll whose clothes are missing (hope you don’t mind if they share it with him!). That was such a sweet surprise!

I finished my granny square last night. I’m hoping to get to a snowflake this evening.

Well, I'm not keeping up well this month! I made the candy box but I didn't like the way it turned out AT ALL (I'm kind of a perfectionist) so I didn't trim it or make the candies. I would love to try the candy eventually even though I didn't like the box but right now I'm discouraged by this pattern. I will probably give them to my daughters to use as cakes for their dolls if I make them.

I didn't use it for the swap because I didn't like how it turned out.

I am hoping to work on the snowflake and granny square this evening. Not sure I am going to get to the ear warmer this month.

Thank you Linda! It was a pattern I found online and the bottoms are made out of flip flop soles. Yes it is single crochet except the the top of the toe cover. It's a mix of single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet. A few of the stitches are also crocheting 2 together so maybe that's why it looks funny!

I love those slippers, Krista. Was it a kit or a pattern? What is the bottom made of? Is that a single crochet? It doesn't look like one, but I can't figure out what it is.

Deb, your teddy bear blanket is so cute. The bright colors will be great for kids.

I forgot to post here yesterday, but I finished my 1 skein wonder. Mine actually applied as a UFO as well since I had everything, but I just hadn't gotten around to it. I'm looking forward to next months challenge.
