Yesterday, we counted 7 Monarch Butterfly caterpillers on one Milk Weed plant in our backyard. We have been watching the Monarchs feed on the plant since we got it. My question is that when they eat up all of the leaves, where do they go next?

Dawn, I am so happy I just happened to stop by this post again! I counted almost 50 monarch caterpillars on my 5 milkweed plants 2 weeks ago. My husband got back from Afghanistan yesterday and went out to air up the tire on his tractor and found three chrysalis from the monarchs (they are gorgeous with gold like tiny bits on them!!). He 'saved' them and attached to the shop window so we could watch them. NOW I am going out to put them in a butterfly house so they can stay safe from those wasps. We have an abundance of wasp. Not sure where all the others have gone to! I did see a couple of monarch BUTTERFLIES in the flower garden yesterday! I hope they ALL survive!!! Thanks again Dawn!

That is crazy! Dang wasps. Thank goodness she is helping to rescue them. We definitely need more of these beauties.

I'm not sure why the wasps do that. My friend's daughter-in-law brings the cocoons into her house after she saw the wasps killing them a few summers ago. Last year she rescued 27 monarchs!

Oh goodness Dawn! I have never heard of that before. Do you know why they do that?

Keep an eye on them. The wasps have a nasty habit of stinging them to death just as they are ready to leave the cocoons. The poor monarchs need all the help they can get!

I love butterflies but we have not had near the amount of bees and butterflies that we normally have...I have a butterfly bush in our front yard...Normally the butterflies flock to it every Summer...This year there have only been a few...Makes me sad not to see these little creatures...

Hugs!

How cool! I remember raising a Monarch Butterfly Caterpillar when I was in school. It was one of the most memorable things we did. Thanks for sharing a picture. I hope they all find safe homes and make it to be beautiful butterflies!!

Thanks Sara for the link! We definitely will grow more next year!!

We found a monarch chrysalis yesterday attached to the side of the carport. I hope all the others found a good place to hatch!!

A plant or two would be great for monarchs.

oh fun to watch. enjoy. Where do they go next, I don't know. Milkweeds grow like weeds up here, so we have alot. I always leave them if they pop up in a flower bed. Hopefully they make their cocoon where you can watch them change.
