I have been spending time with an elderly woman that I enjoy very much. She has dementia and I have found myself spending hours with her and loving every minute of our time together. I consider her to be a loving and caring friend. She was recently placed in a nursing home by her children and does not know that they have put her there to live. I have been spending extra time with her and her new friends and am trying to ease her into this transaction. I think I am getting more out of our time together than they are. I am learning so many things and they have such wonderful and funny stories to tell. They have all gone through some trying times and came out the better for it. We should all spend a little time with our elderly generation and glean all the knowledge we can from them. They are a treasure of wealth in knowledge. They are teaching me so many new and exciting ways of doing different things. The newest thing I have learned is how to make homemade noodles. I can't wait to try making some for my family and friends. What amazes me is that they lived in a time where not every home had a phone or a television. They did not have credit cards or have everything at their fingertips. They forged through trials and tribulations to make a living and raise their children. Life was a lot harder and they did not have the modern conveniences that we have. They enjoyed having me hang on to every word they had to say and loved answering any question I came up with. I admire these women and will continue to spend time with them every week as I need them as much as they think they need me.

We didn't have a phone until I was in the eight grade and then I couldn't call my friends in school because it was long distance. Things have changed so much. One of the older ladies I helped used to ride a horse to teach school and stay with a family all week and she would ride her horse home on the weekends, she would wake up with snow on her in that families house and had to use an outdoor toilet. Lori---I was in my thirties before I got a credit card---
didn't need one in those days. Times were way better in the olden days. We had fun without staring at our phones like people do now---actually talked to each other and had fun. My family has been on this old farm since the 1800's and I often think how they would be amazed at all the new inventions. Rock on Girl---old people are great for sure. Another thought---my wealthy neighbor had a color TV and us poor folk just had black and white.

Live life to the fullest
In the time that I have spent with her I have developed such a bond with her. It is amazing. Now that she is in the nursing home I get to visit several ladies. It is so much fun. What a wealth of knowledge. They are so eager to tell me about their lives and I love to hear it.
