Good morning!

Well it's finally getting closer to that time that we'll be moving off long island. In about 12 months we have to narrow down where we are going. The landlord just raised our rent here 400 more a month, they wanted 600 more, but my husband negotiated. It may as well have been 600. They take the $ and do barely nothing. That aside, I've been packing all of the things we are not using.

There have been so many changes here. Since the fiasco of last summer when my older son Joe got married, Joe and I are speaking again, but its still in a strange place. It's like he is someone else, he's changed.

I found out I'm going to be a grandmother at the end of September, a boy. I'm having a hard time feeling excitement. I always wanted to be a grandmother, but since they were so rude to us all, all the joy is gone. I know I have to accept my sons choice, and I still plan on being courteous to her, as I've always been. I'm sure when i see my grandsons little face the resentment will fade, but it's tough. Right now I'm going to focus on this move my husband and I are making next year once he retires.

My other son Andrew is with a nice girl, and he'll be going on on his own soon too. The only part I feel sad about is that we are being forced to move off the island because the cost of living is out of control. We now pay 2200 a month in rent!, and we've been here for 10 years now. Anyway, we'll likely be hours away from the boys and I hate the idea of it. They've expressed that at some point they will leave too, because its just so expensive.

Does anyone have any recommendations for upstate NY? I was born in Saratoga, but can anyone offer up any info on other areas? I hate driving, and we will be planning a trip soon to view different areas. I'm really not looking forward to the driving part.

Thanks Vicki,

I sure hope time and maturity are key. Of course I can forgive them, but its just hard to comprehend why any of it happened at all when we've always gotten along. Its made me a bit apprehensive, which i think is whats quelling the excitement of becoming a grandmother soon. This isn't the way i thought happily ever after was going to be. Still, I intend on being positive and peaceful.

It's sure nice to finally be outside, it has rained so much, and i keep taking inventory of the plants that will be making the move. I keep dreaming of all the wonderful gardens I'm going to make at our new home, and the outdoor kitchen I'm going to setup.

Oh Connie your on to a new adventure and a phase of life where you got to be Grandma! Your going to find the perfect place and be there! Congratulations in your changing tides and just go were it takes you! You are preparing and doing all the right stuff! Children often make mistakes and think they were choices! Time will help and so will maturity. Keep it as peaceful as is possible and pray for healing in your family. This is the love of your son's life and I hope you can forgive them. Grandchildren!!!! Wee!!!! Spoil them! Keep going forward being your best you and things will work out!
