I love holidays. There is nothing like getting out those decorations and making a little magic. I love all holidays and put up a little something for each one. I would have to say that Fall is my favorite. Christmas is right on the heels of Fall. I really love putting little things around, tucking things into corners or putting a little something in a small space that needed a special touch. I have never been much on themes. I just like to put out whatever suits my fancy. What are you favorite holidays to decorate for? Do you have themes that you go by? Do you decorate for every holiday or are there only certain ones that you like to put things out for? Tell me about it because I am really interested in what you all do.

Dawn, I am one of those that have to get my fall décor out before September. I always get too excited to wait. I love to decorate for Halloween too. I don't put up much for Halloween, just a few simple things.
Grace, that is one good thing about fall. Not stressing out over gifts. My husband and I have decided to cut back on gifts some now that the family is growing. It's getting to be too much for us.

I love fall, not Halloween so much, just fall. Asters, pumpkins, colorful leaves.

Dawn, by mid Aug I am so tired of our Texas summers I tell myself fall is as much an attitude as days on a calendar. I start dragging out my fall décor and by Sept 1st my front porch is screaming "It's Fall".

I love decorating for the seasons and holidays. Autumn is my favorite as is Thanksgiving. We celebrate the Persian winter solstice (my husband is originally from Iran) and Christmas. My spring/summer decor is up the longest and with this current heatwave I am dreaming about getting out my glass pumpkins & autumn decorations. Alas, I will have to wait until September 1 to bring them out.

I remember big family Thanksgiving dinners too. Once my grandparents and parents died my family kind of dispersed. Sad, but true. I still have a dinner with my husband and when we can get the kids here, we have them too. I just loved the smells that would come out of the kitchen while the meal was cooking and being prepared. I would find myself gravitating toward the kitchen to try to sneak a bite of something. LOL. Good memories

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving! I loved when we as a family all got together to visit! Most of my family are gone now but I STILL make a traditional Thanksgiving for my husband, daughter and I.

Rachael your display is so homey, comfortable, memorable and lovely. Made me smile.

Barbara, wow, three trees. I only put one up. I can only imagine how you used to decorate. I bet it looks beautiful. I don't do much decorating in the yard. I used to when I lived in town. I kind of slowed down on that part of the decorating.

Sara, nothing is as pretty as a front porch decorated for the season. Whenever my hubby and I go driving I always take note of any front porch that is decorated. Our house is built into the ground so we don't have a front porch. We are thinking of adding a three season room to the house to compensate for the lack of a porch.

Rachel, I absolutely love the display of your items of faith. Thank you for sharing. I don't know much about the Jewish beliefs but am love learning. I can only imagine how beautiful it looks when the candles are lit. I have read about the Passover in the Bible. Winter can seem long and dreary when there is little sunshine. I don't mind the cold so much when we have sunshine. I don't really care much for the gloomy, wet, drab days.
Thank all of you for sharing your thoughts with me.

Rachel that's a beautiful display of your faith. All I know about your rituals and food is what I have read in the Bible. Thanks for sharing with us.

Although Chanukah is a minor Jewish holiday, it's the only one I decorate for because it occurs in the darkest time of the year - usually December. There's so much beautiful symbolism about lighting one candle each night, and then adding to it until you have all nine candles burning. It brings light into the darkness and for that, I love it. I put up blue and silver tinsel and other decorations just to bring some life into the house. Winters in the Pacific Northwest are wet, dark, and long, so any type of color and light buoys the soul!

Typically, Jews don't decorate for holidays much anyway. Our celebrations are about the religious rituals and the food! My favorite holiday, overall, is Pesach (Hebrew for Passover). That comes with a Passover seder which is always loads of fun. Again, not a lot of decorating goes on. BUT - here is a photo of where I keep my Judaica aka religious objects. Here there are Chanukah menorahs, Seder plates, Shabbat candlesticks of all kinds, a honey dish for Rosh Hashanah, and other items. These items stay out year-round to add beauty to my home and remind me of the importance of religious practice in my life.

I no longer decorate for holidays but I do decorate for the changing seasons. Fall is my favorite so I do more at that time of year. I usually start decorating my front porch the last of August. I am so through with summer by then. I add items inside and out throughout the three months of fall. For winter I do a little bit on front porch; Yellow Rose Cottage; and kitchen. I decorate my front porch for spring and summer. I find I am happier with doing more decorating outside than in. If decorations are left up for anytime in the house I feel like I have to dust them. lol

My favorite holiday is Christmas. I don't do as much as I used to, but I till do three trees. I used to change the whole house---but I have run out of energy for it. The same way with other holidays---I just don"t do near as much. I do love to see what others do though---especially yard displays.
